Job Summary
Under the direction of the Process Shift Supervisor, the Process Operator is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance activities of a highly safety sensitive process operating area. This includes operation of all types of equipment, pumps, compressors and control panel consoles. The work requires working with high pressures and high temperatures, and it is mandatory that the operator follow safe working procedures for high pressure equipment. Additionally, the Process Operator is responsible for documentation of daily activities. This role works with other operators, Operations, Maintenance and other relevant Business Units as required. This position is a shift position. Operators are required to work a 12 hr. swing shift including, nights, weekends and holidays. This role is a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
Core Responsibilities
  • Routinely lead and conduct “what-if’” drills with fellow operators.
  • Meet Facility Targets by:
    • Ensuring key safeguards in the unit are in place, functioning, and effective.
    • Knowing the expected production goals and area team highlights for your shift and operating the unit in the most safe and efficient manner to achieve these targets. Safe operating limits take priority over targets.
    • Understanding and reporting mistakes and unplanned events, participating in after action reviews, assessing the causes, and providing corrective actions. Helping in the communication of these corrective actions to the other shift teams through properly filled out Operator Shift Turnover Sheet
  • Provide Personal Leadership by:
    • Ensuring all of your operator medical fitness for duty and safety training requirements are current.
    • Ensuring you understand the expectations for equipment readiness and cleanliness within your responsible unit.
    • Thoroughly understand the operation and process of the equipment in your area of responsibility. Ensuring to keep up to date with any operating changes or MOCs for your area.
    • Being a continual learner. Taking advantage of every opportunity to improve your level of knowledge.
    • Provide assistance to fellow operators when needed.

  • Participating in a thorough shift handover with your shift counterpart prior to transfer of shift duties. This handover will at a minimum follow the facility’s shift handover procedure and utilize the Operator Shift Turnover Sheet.
  • Reviewing all previous shift operating logs since your last shift with eye toward identifying trends, noting out-of-specification parameters, and understanding operations conducted in preceding shifts.
  • Perform minor maintenance within your skills and abilities.
  • At the start of shift, conducting a thorough review noting equipment status, maintenance activities planned, Management of Change, safety systems bypassed, non-routine operations activities in progress, any out of specification parameters or other abnormal conditions, and general cleanliness of operating spaces.
  • Monitor and Solve facility conditions by:
    • Participating in a thorough shift handover with your shift counterpart prior to transfer of shift duties. This handover will at a minimum follow the facility’s shift handover procedure and utilize the Operator Shift Turnover Sheet.
    • At the start of shift, conducting a thorough review noting equipment status, maintenance activities planned, Management of Change, safety systems bypassed, non-routine operations activities in progress, any out of specification parameters or other abnormal conditions, and general cleanliness of operating spaces.
    • Reviewing all previous shift operating logs since your last shift with eye toward identifying trends, noting out-of-specification parameters, and understanding operations conducted in preceding shifts.
    • Conducting unit operating rounds within prescribed frequency, noting abnormal or out-of-specification readings, sounds, trends, and using this information to anticipate impact on unit operation, and production.
    • Perform minor maintenance within your skills and abilities.
    • Identity and/or resolve issues and inform the PSS.
  • Identity and/or resolve issues and inform the PSS.
  • Understanding expectations as they are communicated. If expectations are not understood, ensure clarification is found.
  • Reporting to the PSS any abnormal operating conditions.
  • Following LOTO removal, ensure systems are restored to an operational status prior to startup.
  • Ensuring a safe work environment exists for work being conducted in your unit.
  • Communicating any operational learnings to the other unit Operators using the Operator Shift Turnover Sheet (Appendix A) and log book.
  • Follow and enforce without exception Lima Refining Company's Life Saving Rules (LSR's)
  • Enforce Compliance of the facility by:
    • Ensuring the standards for run sheet recording, procedure use, and cleanliness are maintained.
    • Knowing and understanding procedural, policy, environmental and regulatory compliance for the Operating unit you are working in (e.g. LOTO, permit limits, work authorization, etc.).
    • Participating in shift handovers.
    • Communicating any operational learnings to the other unit Operators using the Operator Shift Turnover Sheet (Appendix A) and log book.
    • Understanding expectations as they are communicated. If expectations are not understood, ensure clarification is found.
    • Ensuring a safe work environment exists for work being conducted in your unit.
    • Reporting to the PSS any abnormal operating conditions.

Experience
  • 0-5 years working in an industrial setting is an asset.

Required Qulifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age.
