The Howmet structures business manufactures metallurgically advanced lightweight multi-material solutions that range from titanium mill products to titanium forgings, extrusions and assembled systems for aerospace and defense applications.

Howmet Aerospace Structures is seeking a Process Product Metallurgist at our Niles location. This position requires high level communication across the organization on metallurgical and processing concepts to customers, operating personnel, other company departments, technical staff, and upper-level management. The incumbent must also be able to develop and translate customer and internal material and processing specification requirements into mill processing procedures.
Responsibilities

• Provide technical support and lead problem-solving efforts regarding metallurgical and mechanical property issues.
• Define and execute qualification plans for new product introduction, melting and processing changes to existing products.
• Interact with R&D team as needed regarding complex metallurgical challenges, and jointly develop engineering solutions
• Support the efforts in developing more robust manufacturing processes.
• Develop, implement, and maintain functional SPC for key product characteristics as defined in process maps and PFMEA documents
• Support a team of metallurgists, process engineers and laboratory personnel in an aerospace material, manufacturing-based organization in the fulfillment of product testing and certification.
• Possess a strong foundation in titanium metallurgy, process/product interactions, and analytical and statistical skills required for customer engagement

Qualifications
Education Requirements:

• Experience with statistical software is required. Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred, but not mandatory.
• Possess good problem-solving skills for supporting all aspects of the engineering infrastructure.
• Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or chemistry is required.
• Experience in Ti metals industry is preferred.
• Intermediate to Advanced skill level in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access. SAP experience a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team atmosphere. Ability to manage multiple and complex tasks simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to interact effectively with cross-functional teams.
