The expected ENTRY pay range for this position based on experience and equity within the Judicial Branch is $20.00 to $22.50.
This position is Non-Exempt under the FLSA.

About the Position
The Probation Dispatcher plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of the probation department officers in the field by sending and receiving radio transmissions utilizing a multi-channel radio console while maintaining computer aided dispatch systems and other computer programs. This position is responsible for receiving, coordinating and disseminating critical information from various sources while maintaining radio contact with field units to monitor their location and send support as needed. The Adult Probation Communications Center does not receive 911 calls from the public but monitors the safety of employees of the probation departments.
The Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. You must be willing to work any and all assigned shifts in order to be considered for this position. In most instances, New Hires will be assigned to 2nd shift (2:00pm-10:00pm) or 3rd shift (10:00pm- 6:00am) based on the department need. Shift Differentials will be paid based on the shift you are assigned (2nd shift $.50, 3rd shift $.75).

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • High School diploma or GED
Experience:
  • (1) year of public contact, customer service, multi-line telephone operation, dispatch, or two-way radio system experience
OR
Combined education and experience qualifications:
  • An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or work-related experience may be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Local Geography
Skill in:
  • Operating communications equipment quickly and accurately
  • Communicating effectively and clearly to others in person, on the phone and over the radio
  • Managing a fast-paced environment while being able to multi-task by answering phones and taking radio transmissions
Ability to:
  • Learn the proper use of computer aided dispatch systems
  • React quickly and calmly in emergency situations
  • Transcribe information in an accurate and timely manner
  • Work as a member of a team with moderate supervision
  • Learn the proper dispatch formats, codes and terminology
  • Maintain emotional control, remember details, exercise judgment, and always work effectively including during heavy workloads or extremely stressful conditions
  • Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while adapting to changing priorities as the situation requires
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS

  • Maintains awareness of the status of field personnel and updates their status in the system.
  • Evaluates incoming radio or phone calls for proper action and initiates proper response.
  • Uses various computer systems for data entry, information retrieval and to generate memos, reports, correspondence, and distributes to appropriate sources.
  • Answers telephone calls from the public and provides excellent customer service.
  • Receives and transmits emergency and non-emergency calls to and from field units, supervisors, administration, support office personnel and other law enforcement agencies via radio, telephone, computer or other communication equipment.
  • Creates and maintains manual and/or computer automated records of communications activities.
  • Monitors emergency and general support radio frequencies.
Working conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be wearing a headset and is regularly required to speak clearly and hear; see details of objects that are less than a few feet away; sit for long periods of time; stand, walk, use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally push, pull or lift up to 20 pounds. Work in an environment with moderate noise level from several sources creating constant activity.
  • Shifts are 6:00AM - 2:00PM, 2:00PM - 10:00PM, and 10:00PM - 6:00AM.
  • Secured office environment. Must have the ability to work any and all shifts, as assigned based on the needs of the organization.
  • Shift differentials are available depending on assigned shift. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.
  • Shifts are determined by shift bid. Most employees will work five (5) x eight (8) hour days per week.
