Juvenile Probation Technician Jobs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Time management and organization with the ability to apply principles and methods of corrections casework.

Monitors payment of restitution and probation fees and ensures victims’ notification rights are provided according to statutory requirements.

Juvenile Probation Officers are required to maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications throughout employment.

Abide by all provisions of s.985.644(1) regarding fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.

Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Attends training conferences as required for maintenance of Juvenile Probation Officer Certification.

Good computer and organizational skills; ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.

For certain positions requiring certification, state standards shall disqualify an applicant if their criminal history reveals:

Maintains correspondence, written and verbal, with District Attorney, juvenile’s family, juvenile’s attorney, victims and collateral agencies.

Knowledge of various counseling and treatment modalities.

Compile, organize, and update case history files for accurate representation of youth and family background, behavior and other relative information.

Attends court and make recommendations regarding youth.

Attend and participate in various work-related meetings and training.

Considerable knowledge of the juvenile justice system, especially as it relates to juvenile delinquency and children in need of supervision matters.

Makes appropriate referrals to other private or public agencies of the community as needed.

Makes predisposition studies and submits reports and recommendations to the court as required by Alabama law.

Experience with applying and removing physical restraints.

Experience transporting youth or other clientele with a secure or non-secure vehicle.

Working experience that exhibits a high standard of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.

Experience working both independently and collaboratively within a team, contributing to a positive and cohesive team dynamic.

Possession of exceptional prioritization skills and be adaptable to emerging issues.

Knowledge of and skill with basic computer programs to complete forms and required documentation for caseload management

Ability to use non-violent physical restraint and non-hostile management of aggressive behavior

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)

Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Probation Officer certification

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

Prior experience with at-risk youth

Knowledge of the principles of youth probation work and related court procedures.

Knowledge of child and adolescent development and behavior and family dynamics.

Some knowledge of community resources available to youth and their families.

Ability to organize time and effectively manage workload.

Skill in the operation of a personal computer with word processing applications.

An employee new to the Judicial Branch will serve a one-year probationary period.

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:

Manage time well, perform multiple tasks and organize diverse activities.

OR Two years of experience as a P.O.S.T. certified peace officer.

Three (3) or more years of professional experience in law enforcement as a Certified Peace Officer.

Aids in making plans for helping youth offenders with life adjustments.

Counsels' youth offenders via office visits, employment visits, telephone inquiries, community contacts and correspondence.

· Complies with legal requirements to ensure juveniles receive full benefits of due process

· Must be certified juvenile probation officer or eligible for certification by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department

· (BILINGUAL) Fluent Spanish Speaking with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Keeps timely chronological documentation of cases

· Receives offense referrals and performs preliminary investigations

· Maintains timely personal or personnel paperwork to include monthly reports, time sheets, and case tracking

Probation Officer- Denver Juvenile Probation

To be established at the local district. Positions may perform one or more the following:

Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Plans and helps facilitate psychoeducational groups using leadership style that promotes participation and positive adolescent development.

Monitors performance of juveniles relating to completion of behavioral requirements, and treatment programming.

Ensures adherence to safety requirements.

Requires strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Supervise the activities of juveniles in the course of meeting their educational, emotional, recreational, disciplinary, and basic child care needs.

Provide a safe, secure and positive environment for juveniles detained in the Juvenile Detention Center.

Supervise family visitation and documents juveniles' behavior and adaptation to a secure, supervised setting on a daily basis.

Develop, facilitate, and participate in training for ongoing educational requirements and ongoing certification.

One or more years’ experience in a related field.
