JOB SUMMARY
Random Acts, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting kindness and compassion around the world, is seeking a talented and experienced Press Release Writer to join our team. As a Press Release Writer, you will play a crucial role in effectively communicating our mission, projects, and achievements to the media and the public. This is a remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Create engaging, persuasive, and newsworthy press releases that effectively convey the goals, activities, and impact of Random Acts to target audiences, including journalists, media outlets, and the general public
Conduct thorough research to gather accurate and up-to-date information about Random Acts' projects, initiatives, and events. Ensure that all facts, data, and statements in press releases are verified and reliable.
Collaborate with various teams within Random Acts, including leadership, digital marketing, internal communications, and event departments to collect relevant information and insights necessary for crafting impactful press releases.
Follow the organization's style guidelines to maintain consistent branding and tone of voice across all press releases, ensuring alignment with Random Acts' values and messaging.
Assist in developing a comprehensive press release distribution strategy, including identifying appropriate media contacts, creating media lists, and managing media relations to maximize coverage and impact.
Implement best practices for optimizing press releases for search engines and online platforms, ensuring increased visibility and discoverability of Random Acts' news and updates.
Review and edit press releases for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and adherence to Random Acts' guidelines and standards.
Work closely with the Writing and Digital marketing team to manage and align promotional calendars with editorial production
Ensure that both theMessaging Manager and the Digital Marketing Manager are promptly updated about any substantial issues that pose a threat to the organization's welfare and wellbeing.
Participate in scheduled staff and department meetings
Identify DEI&B (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging) needs in Writing assignments
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
1-2 years experience as a press release writer, preferably in the nonprofit sector
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for detail
Possess a solid understanding of PR principles, news values, and media relations
Proficiency in using press release distribution tools and platforms
Familiarity with SEO and content optimization techniques
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and consistently deliver on time.
Excellent research and fact-checking abilities
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
Passion for nonprofit work and alignment with Random Acts' mission and values
Flexible work schedule to accommodate projects, evening and weekend meetings
Able to commit a minimum of 3-4 hours per week to Random Acts activities
