Job Description

SUMMARY

The Plant Manager is responsible to drive continuous improvement in the manufacturing environment which includes managing safety, quality, service, people and cost efficiency to improve plant operations and facility. This position is responsible for building teams, setting and achieving high expectations, managing local manufacturing, safety, quality, and environmental programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides technical and managerial expertise to solve problems, makes recommendations and oversees implementation of improvements
  • Manages and complies with all safety policies, procedures and established safety practices, as well as quality assurance and environmental regulatory programs
  • Maintains all required documentation and records, ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Reviews and approves employee timesheets; monitors overtime, vacation schedules and sick usage; assists with employee scheduling
  • Assists with management of the inventory system ensuring adequate and efficient inventory levels are maintained
  • Recommends capital improvement projects, equipment replacement and staffing levels
  • Provides direction and oversight to production and maintenance teams to ensure optimal production and ensure proper care of facilities and equipment
  • Completes performance reviews and provides feedback to employees; establishes performance development plans and goals
  • Maintains effective communication and works collaboratively with all departments including Sales, Dispatch/Transportation and other areas to ensure smooth operations
  • Manage and maintain third party warehouse management and contract negotiations for pricing on services such as warehousing, consign inventory, transloading, bagging, toting, dumping totes to bulk
  • Develops and hires team members to aid in culture development; assists with training of new employees and implementing training programs
  • Sets, communicates and sustains high standards for facility housekeeping and the organization
  • Responsible for hiring, development and retention of employees including resolution of disciplinary actions and employee issues; takes appropriate action with the assistance of the Human Resources Department

A person that has past due trainings does not meet the expectations of his or her position.

Provides strong leadership, sets a good example, skilled decision maker, motivator, encourager.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & SKILLS

Knowledge of:

  • Cal-OSHA regulations, procedures and requirements
  • Manufacturing/operations and industry methods, best practices, standards and procedures
  • HACCP, FSMA, SOP, GMP and environmental regulations and/or requirements

Ability to:

  • Manage 90+ production employees, 4 maintenance employees and have 6 direct reports including Production Supervisors, Safety, maintenance and cosign Team.
  • Lead, motivate and effectively build a team
  • Multi-task and work well in a fast-paced environment while making complex decisions
  • Effectively exercise discretion and authority
  • Work with third parties regarding audits and inspections
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and customers

Skills:

Continuous Improvement: Design, roadmap and continuous process/control improvement plans, leading implementation of both, including application/system change management for increased efficiency and effectiveness of processes or data.

Conflict Management: Is able to identify and handle conflicts sensibly, fairly, and efficiently.

Employee Management: Maintains accurate records and tracking of team absenteeism and time-keeping. Demonstrated responsibility for employee hiring and retention, performance reviews, departmental conducting of employee training & development, & discipline

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent managerial experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate staff and facilitate change
  • Strong managerial, analytical and decision-making abilities
  • Computer proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, timekeeping, production management and inventory control systems; SAP experience desired
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Insurable DMV record
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Six (6) plus years in a manufacturing leadership role with increasing responsibility

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: frequent standing and/or long period of time on feet, occasional bending, and squatting, kneeling. Occasional lifting, and/or moving over 75 pounds. Occasion grasping, holding and reacting. Constant use of overall vision; frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to wear ear protection or hear in noisy conditions. Frequent co-worker contact; occasional working alone. Available to response to emergency calls; work weekend and or holidays. Available to climb ladders/stair up to heights in excess of 100’.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work may be performed inside or outside in hot and cool temperature and in a noisy environment. May be exposure to loud noises and steam exhaust, dusty and muddy/slick environment. Adhere to all PPE guideline as established by OSHA and the company.
