We are currently opening a new plant in San Leandro, CA and looking for an inspirational manufacturing director to lead this new venture.
About The Role
The Plant Director will bring our production practices to the next level while maintaining our quality, safety and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards. The Plant Director directs and oversees all people, processes and equipment in the Production, Maintenance and Warehouse departments, with a major emphasis on developing and fostering a well-trained, high performing, and motivated team.
Core Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Provides guidance, coaching and training to site leadership team for continuous improvement initiatives.
- Direct and manage all plant operations for production, sanitation, maintenance, shipping, receiving, and warehousing.
- Regularly interacts and communicates with bakery staff to facilitate awareness of facility performance and goal attainment.
- Ensures food safety/quality polices are followed to meet our business objective while ensuring the integrity and safety of our products and facilities.
- Champion Safety (with strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures). Ensure incidents are addressed to completion.
Production Efficiency
- Implement Continuous Improvement initiatives to gain efficiency, reduce downtime, direct labor, and waste (Lean methodology, Total Quality Management etc..) as well as improve processes.
- Set monthly objectives for departmental managers and schedule daily/weekly/monthly review meetings to review performance KPIs and open actions.
- Define, implement, and maintain KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to support: 1. Production managers to drive and improve their operations 2. Senior Management to target key challenges (Efficiency, Quality, OTD, Capacity …)
- Develop and manage the facility budget to achieve the annual cost objectives aligned with the business plan.
- Work closely with Maintenance, QA and Planning & Purchasing to better organize the production and minimize the impact of downtime.
- Work closely with our R&D and QC teams to ensure product quality and consistency.
Other special projects
- Define with the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) project team the new manufacturing processes and implement them on the floor.
- Strategizes with senior leadership on capital budget needs and coordination of project execution.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate commercialization of new products with the product development, maintenance, and QA teams.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain leadership to reduce material cost and optimize production plans.
- Work closely with the QA Director in implementing GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) standards on the shop floor.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to manage and develop a 0 based, multi-million-dollar budget
- Ability to lead, manage and develop a team of direct reports
- Structured experience with management systems such as Quality Food (SQF), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Hazard Analysis Risk-Based Preventive Controls (HARPC)
- Computer skills including SAP, Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint
- Knowledge of baking techniques a plus
- 10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations
- Ability to manage constant change in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Effective time management and communication skills
- Effective change management and proven ability to lead teammates through large, impactful changes
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects
