Position Summary


The People Relations Managers will serve as the main point of contact for HR-related employee interaction and is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level working closely with management with guidance from the Sr. People Relations Managers.


Key Responsibilities


Employee Relations:


  • Liaises with employees, management and HR on all leave, worker’s compensation, and reasonable accommodation issues
  • Partners with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale
  • Conducts exit interviews and analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement
  • Responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from employees and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate teams


Labor Relations


  • Represents management in investigating, answering, and settling grievances, by arranging and scheduling grievance hearings between union personnel, supervisor and the Management team
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
  • Maintains working relationship with Union officials and adheres to terms of labor contract by monitoring day-to-day implementation of policies concerning wages, hours and working conditions.


General HR Support


  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law


Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements


  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with high attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws
  • Bachelors’ degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Business Administration, or commensurate work experience
  • Proven ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization's hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors
  • Proven ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • The ability to resolve problems or issues with judgment that is in consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation, or government law
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to keep information confidential and commitment to produce high quality work
  • Ability to travel to both domestic and international regions
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • At least 3-5 years of progressive human resource management experience
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Hawaiian Airlines is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT - regulation, 49 CFR part 40) and all applicants are advised that post-offer and/or pre-employment drug testing will be conducted to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opioids, PCP (Phencyclidine), and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into a safety-sensitive position. Failure to submit to testing or positive indications of drug use will render the applicant ineligible for employment with Hawaiian Airlines and any employment offer will be withdrawn.
  • Proven experience in execution of complex HR initiatives such as talent acquisition, employee relations, labor relations, performance management and training, learning and development
  • Proven ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy, ability to prioritize multiple functions and tasks and manage work on time


Preferred Qualifications


  • Airline or other service industry experience, preferably
  • Experience with unions and grievance process and relevant local labor unions
  • Background in employment law and other government compliance regulations is preferred
  • PHR/SPHR strongly preferred
  • 3-5 years of employee relations experience
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems
