About: This position provides medical readiness support to the Soldier Resiliency and Readiness Center (SRRC) in coordination with William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) to support soldier mobilizations and demobilizations, as well as to provide secondary support to WBAMC’s Primary Care and other outlying clinics when mission permits.

Position Description & Responsibilities:
- The main mission is to conduct health screenings on all pre-/post-deployment personnel (service members, contractor personnel, and/or civilian personnel) to include Separation Health Physical Examinations (SHPE) on post-deployment military personnel. General soldier readiness health screenings along with primary care evaluations, diagnostics and treatment for all service members are also included in the scope of the mission.
Specific Tasks:
- Optometry Technicians shall perform the following functions, within the scope of accepted Optometry Technician practices. These shall be essentially the same duties as those required of any Medical Corps personnel or Government civil service provider of similar experience and in similar duty assignments. Other duties shall consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct initial interviews with service members to gather medical history and information on visual complaints, past eye injuries, and family histories of eye diseases. Identify any unconventional problem area that may be affecting the service member's visual or overall well-being. Administer various visual tests for preliminary data and special examinations. Receives and orients service member. Set up equipment to conduct diagnostic tests. Insure that any unusual results or problems with any tests are brought to the CP, optometrist or supervisor's attention.
- Shall provide support to the local MTF as needed.
- Document care given. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with applicable directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required by the policy. Ensure all documentation and reports are legible and complete. The CP shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established standards to include but not limited to timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content and signature.
How to Qualify:
- Certifications: Complete an optometric technician course and possess and maintain current certification. Possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. The American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. BLS recertification shall be maintained in a current status at all times while the CP provides services via this contract.
- Credentialing: Ability to pass background check and drug screen. Current physical and immunizations.
- Education: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) diploma.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship.
- Experience: Possess a minimum of one year’s experience within the last two years working as a full-time Optometry technician.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with the military population.
Physical Requirements: You must be on the premises to perform the job. The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift.
