General Summary
The O&M Technician (OMT) Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of equipment and systems in the power plant and the associated facilities and to assist in plant start-up, shutdown, and operation as required. The OMT Mechanic performs work of high skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of equipment in the power plant.
Primary Functions
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems
- Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment
- Comply with all company safety maintenance and operations work procedures and standards
- Complete other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Manager
- Attend and participate in all company sponsored safety, environment, and other training
- Complete required documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA), lockout tag out and work permits, assist with job plan creation. Complete feedback on assigned work orders as necessary
- Maintain and update the preventive maintenance management program for plant equipment, i.e., pumps, valves, gearboxes, turbines, etc.
- Responsible for the care and maintenance of all tools (such as hand tools and specialty tools) used in the maintenance function
- Forecast and inventory spare parts to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories
- Oversee, direct, and assist with contractors to facilitate efficient execution of the company’s work
- Participate in the administrative maintenance management system for the plant operating and maintenance manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records

Working Relationships
The OMT Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Manager, and at times receives general direction and guidance from the Plant Manager. The OMT Mechanic collaborates with all other plant personnel on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.
Physical Requirements and Working Relationships
Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Work Schedule
Regular scheduled workweek is Monday to Friday from 6:00am to 2:00pm. Position requires extended working hours, overtime, and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. Hours may be adjusted by Management at times. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
Initial compensation will range from $60.47 to $62.47 per hour.
Job Qualifications
- The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of successful predictive and preventative maintenance practices in their previous work experience.
- Demonstrate the ability to work and support teams as both a leader and participating member
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Graduation from an accredited trade school is a plus
- Technician level experience in a power plant or related industry is required
- Ability to perform alignment of plant equipment and apply creative solutions to unique plant and mechanical problems
- Experience maintaining and updating preventive maintenance management programs for plant equipment, such as pumps, valves, gearboxes, turbines, etc.
- Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) within 6 months of hire date
- Must be able to work from blueprints, drawings, and P&IDs
- Must be able to work with and use a Computerized Maintenance Management System, CMMS (MP2, SAP, MAXIMO preferred)
- Must have excellent organizational skills, work well with others and be self-directed
- Must prioritize safety when planning work and effectively ensure compliance with safety protocols, in addition to identifying parts requirements and factoring in any other necessary inputs
- Operate a computer terminal utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be skilled in the use of hand and power-driven tools
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely, are essential for this role.
