Opportunity Summary

The O&M Manager performs leadership and O&M responsibilities ensuring the safe, efficient, reliable operation and maintenance of the plant. Performs all duties in compliance with plant policies, procedures, rules, and regulations pertaining to operations, safety, conduct, and housekeeping. Protects the Owner’s investment in machinery, equipment and facilities by exercising care, skill and knowledge. Ensures that all mechanical, electrical, and control and instrument equipment is maintained in a safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition. This applies during day-to-day operation, scheduled outages, and to forced outages. Plans, oversees and supervises Production Technicians in the repair, maintenance and improvement of plant mechanical, electrical, control and instrument equipment. When needed, the O&M Manager will be hands-on, directly performing operations and maintenance responsibilities. The O&M Manager will evaluate plant maintenance requirements and coordinate with related work projects.

Here's a look at some of the work you'll be doing:

  • Conduct periodic review of plant policies and procedures to ensure they reflect current plant goals, operating requirements and the industry’s best in class
  • Supervise plant production personnel to include pre-job brief, LOTO, safety job assessments, scheduling work, procurement of parts and ensuring proper job completion.
  • Coordinate contractor support required for equipment repair or maintenance including work scope, negotiations, contract development, and implementation
  • Motivate, direct and supervise personnel to effectively and efficiently accomplish their assigned duties through performance appraisals, reward, discipline, and management skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager
  • Provide the Plant Manager with information concerning the availability and reliability of facility equipment
  • Develop and maintain equipment history operating records including equipment operating hours, maintenance downtime, cost, availability, manpower utilization and report such information to the Plant Manager
  • Prepare and maintain various reports and records that are required to verify the completion of plant maintenance work and provide historical information for future maintenance planning
  • Support equipment operation through the implementation of preventive, predictive, scheduled and corrective maintenance planning and procedures
  • Assist Plant Manager in development and monitoring of plant budget, operating plan, and development of technicians
  • Qualify as Plant Operator / Control Room Operator (CRO)
  • Perform short-ranged and long-range planning for scheduled and forced outages by participating in-plant planning meetings and formulating plans and programs to minimize equipment downtime and ensure timely, efficient and safe repairs.
  • Coordinate maintenance work interfaces with other plant evolutions to accomplish repairs in a timely and safe manner
  • Determine plant maintenance requirements by following preventive and predictive maintenance programs and reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing maintenance work requests in order to establish job steps, estimate man-hours, and specify part and equipment needs
  • Ensure continuity of project operation through the training and development of plant personnel
  • Ensure proper, efficient and safe operation of the facility equipment by establishing, implementing, and maintaining equipment operating procedures
  • Lead the planning of maintenance outages using effective time management principles
  • Responsible for maintaining records and coordinating activities associated with all plant equipment.
  • Continually develop knowledge of the plant and power plants in general
  • Coordinate maintenance project activities by scheduling work, monitoring performance and providing technical expertise and direction to ensure that work is performed in a safe, timely and productive manner

Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each supervisor’s performance.

Working Relationships

The O&M Manager reports to the Plant Manager and supervises subordinate operations and maintenance personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, requiring stair and ladder climbing. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Work Schedule

Regular scheduled work days are Monday to Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial compensation will range from $135,000 to $145,000

Job Requirements

  • Able to analyze and interpret data to make sound professional judgments and recommendations
  • Ability to solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and needs, and train other personnel
  • Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) experience is highly desirable
  • Understanding of budgets, bid proposals, contract evaluation and award, basic accounting principles, plant economics and power pool operations
  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Technical undergraduate degree is a plus
  • Proficiency in computer skills such as Microsoft Office and PI OPC Interface
  • Gas-fired power plant maintenance/operations experience is highly desirable. Relative industry or military experience is also acceptable
  • Experience with MS “Project” or a similar planning tool is desired
  • Written communication skills to write operating procedures, routine reports, work requests, communications by e-mail, etc.
  • Experience with GE 7EA Turbines, MK V Controls, EX2000 Exciter or Emerson Delta-V is a plus
  • Experience supervising hourly personnel; strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals
  • Verbal communication skills to clearly communicate tasks / instructions, train personnel, etc.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations
