North America Payroll & Benefits, Senior Manager

In the United States - Boston | Atlanta | Chicago | Houston | New York

Looking for an exciting opportunity to be a critical part of building the talent engine fueling a high-growth, global organization? The North America Payroll & Benefits Senior Manager will ensure transactional excellence, compliance, accuracy, and efficiency throughout our payroll and benefits function, including payroll tax and benefits deductions. This position will support employees throughout the United States and Canada and will oversee the establishment and implementation of payroll processes according to best practices and regulatory compliance to enable Simon-Kucher’s continued growth.

This position will partner heavily with colleagues throughout the People Relations & Operations team: with HR Systems & Data team to provide collaborative feedback around upstream data capture and onboarding processes; with HR Leadership to ensure comprehensive planning and management of activities impacting payroll (e.g., benefits updates, regular and ad hoc audits); with the Senior Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to ensure accurate and streamlined execution of payroll and benefits transactions.

This is a full-time, exempt position.

How you will create an impact:
  • Supervise Sr. Payroll & Benefits Coordinator, providing feedback, coaching, and professional development to continue the growth and competency of the team. Serve as the primary backup for any payroll or benefits functions.
  • Lead the strategy and administration of the Simon-Kucher benefit programs for the US and Canada, consult with and advise employees on eligibility for all insurance and 401(k)/pension matters.
  • Coordinate and lead the yearly Open Enrollment Meetings with employees & broker; Arrange for distribution of materials from carriers and process changes with deadlines.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Oversee Canadian payroll and benefits administration. Manage vendor relationships and recommend procedural enhancements in support of exceptional service to employees.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing best-in-class payroll controls.
  • Develop census data and provide census to broker.
  • Responsible for compensation/payroll administration, and reconciliations to General Ledger and other accounts.
  • Lead and manage the execution of payroll and benefits processing activities for US and Canadian employee population, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of all transactions.
  • Conduct employee training as needed.
  • Work with Head of North American HR and benefits broker to secure benefits and maintain cost-effective use of the benefits.
  • Conduct audits and provides feedback to necessary processors and collaboration partners to ensure ongoing process improvement.
  • Responsible for managing the processing, reviewing, and balancing bi-weekly payroll for US and Canada. Ensure payroll transactions are processed correctly for time, earnings, benefits, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and other items that affect pay &/or company liability.
  • Responsible for all payroll and benefits processes and policies and collaborates with internal stakeholders to update employee-facing policies, procedures, and documentation as business changes dictate.
  • Lead annual open enrollment planning activities and take ownership of system adjustments to reflect employee and Partner offerings, premiums, and data accuracy and reconciliation.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries from employees.
  • Develop company cost information for new plans and makes recommendations to North America Leadership Team and Head of North America HR.
  • Responsible for reviewing and enhancing payroll business processes and documentation of key controls to ensure accuracy in the payroll process.
  • Conduct ongoing, bi-directional audits of payrolls against internal HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) systems, vendor systems, and vendor bills to ensure the accuracy of all systems and payments. Conduct root-cause analysis in response to errors and implement process adjustments, as necessary.
Your profile:
  • CPP certification
  • Demonstrated success and knowledge of best practices managing payroll and benefits in a Partnership/equity ownership environment.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to partner and communicate with multiple stakeholders across all levels of the organization.
  • Thorough knowledge of Gross to Net Payroll and General Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to think and perform strategically and tactically
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Proven ability to influence and drive change with senior leaders in a scaling organization.
  • Working knowledge of Wage and Hour requirements and Taxation requirements.
  • Excellent consulting skills; able to influence senior stakeholders to drive results within a matrixed and global organization.
  • Sarbanes Oxley experience with respect to the establishment of payroll system controls
  • Experience working in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Hands-on knowledge and application of all applicable state/federal regulations, including FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) and wage & hour laws, ERISA, FMLA and their administration through Payroll and Benefits transactions and processes.
  • Ability to align people strategy with business goals and growth.
  • 7+ years relevant work experience managing and administering payroll and benefits administration in multi-state environments throughout US & Canada, including 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong analytical and business acumen, with the expertise to interpret business metrics

The pay range for this position in New York is $125,000-$160,000/yr. Compensation may vary depending on relevant experience, skills, geographic location, and business needs.
