Job Description
What to Expect
The New Product Introduction Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of new manufacturing processes for 4680 cell production and carrying out trials to the established product specifications. The primary responsibility will be to test and validate systems and parts involved in product and manufacturing development. Collaborating with safety, design, manufacturing, and service departments, you will identify, report, and adjust equipment or processes that require improvement. Ultimately, you will introduce major coordinated changes into our manufacturing systems and factories.
What You’ll Do
  • Establish validation standards, develop testing protocols, prepare equipment, document test results, and maintain records.
  • Coordinate the cross functional effort to trial new parts and processes inside our existing manufacturing system
  • Develop a deep understanding of our product design and manufacturing processes
  • Answer complex questions on change impact to manufacturing
  • Support design and process engineers by doing data analysis and understanding how they need to align on managing change
  • Analyze and determine the optimal solutions for change coordination with manufacturing, other Tesla plants, and suppliers (including EBOM, MBOM, etc)
  • Work with stakeholders to take a vague problem statement, refine the scope of the analysis, and use the results to drive informed decisions
What You’ll Bring
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Curious and driven to solve complex problems
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in quantitative discipline (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering) or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
  • Ability to problem solve and adjust priorities in a fast-moving and constantly evolving high growth environment
  • Comfortable in an environment with unstructured, incomplete, and ambiguous data
  • Production Operations Knowledge - has a firm understanding of how complex production lines operate including key items such as industrial workings between facilities/departments, line balance, OEE, error proofing, etc.
  • Strong engineering skills and proven track record of exceptional ability (i.e. you personally solved difficult problems that moved the needle on meaningful projects)
  • Experience and interest in data visualization techniques
