About Mobile Loaves & Fishes
Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF) is a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998. Founded in Austin, Texas, the organization serves its homeless neighbors through three core programs: Truck Ministry, Community First! Village, and Community Works. Often referred to as the most talked about neighborhood in Austin, Community First! Village is a 51-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for men and women coming out of chronic homelessness. We are now embarking on a new phase of community expansion, adding more than 1400 new neighbors over the next 5-10 years.
About the role
Community First! Village is a 51-acre master-planned community that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the chronically homeless in Travis County. The Neighbor Care Team has the privilege of walking alongside our "neighbors" as they apply to live at Community First! Village and to provide an opportunity for them to settle, cultivate, and care for themselves and others in this unique community. The Neighbor Engagement Manager is an integral part of the Neighbor Care team. The primary role of the Neighbor Engagement Manager is to enrich the lives of the neighbors at Community First! Village by promoting a culture of the community. The Neighbor Engagement Manager will create a vision for engaging neighbors and volunteers, manage team members that focus on neighbor engagement, and oversee the operations of a neighbor-focused space called the Living Room.
This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Assistant Director of Neighbor Care Due to the nature and requirements of the position, hours are flexible to fit need, but typically include 8am - 5pm Monday through Friday. Some nights and weekends may be required The Neighbor Engagement Manager will office at Community First! Village is located at 9301 Hog Eye Road, Austin, TX 78724.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the creation of new volunteer opportunities for neighbor engagement
- Manage the Neighbor Engagement Specialist and Neighbor Care Evening and Weekend Assistant(s)
- Deepen and develop upon Neighbor Care's vision of creating a culture for neighbors to settle, cultivate, and care for themselves and others
- Encourage a culture of community building amongst our neighbors and with the outside community
- Oversee the operations of the Living Room, including staffing, policies, procedures and purchasing
- Attend regularly scheduled staff, Goodness Group, and Neighbor Care team meetings
- Assist Neighbor Care leadership and other departments as needed
- Collaborate with Neighbor Care leadership to help empower the Neighbor Care team in fully understanding and implementing our mission, vision, and values
- Engage in strategic planning around neighbor engagement and ways to increase community involvement
- Connect with neighbors on a regular basis to build deep and meaningful relationships
- Other Duties & Responsibilities as needed
- Build and steward a strong volunteer base to provide coverage in the Living Room
- Provide on-call assistance to Evening and Weekend Assistant(s) in emergency situations
- Collaborate with the Volunteer Team to strengthen and grow our volunteer base
- Steward the vision of the Living Room as a space to encourage community, cultivate enjoyment, and provide better access to resources for our neighbors
- Assist MLF and Neighbor Care team in achieving our goals, especially caring for neighbors
- Collaborate with Neighbor Care, Community Empowerment, and stakeholders to develop more spiritual opportunities for neighbors

Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Strong aptitude for problem-solving
- 2-4 years of management experience required
- Good listening skills
- Experience with Salesforce is a plus
- Proven professional experience in community engagement
- A "Semper Gumby" approach with shifting Covid precautions and regulations regarding neighbor events
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Positive attitude, interest, enthusiasm, team player, good sense of humor, and stamina
- Skilled in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Canva
- Must have patience, compassion, and professionalism
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work joyfully and connect with diverse populations and organizations
- Ability to greet the public in a cheerful and helpful manner
- Commitment to serving those who have experienced homelessness and personal alignment with MLF's vision, mission, core values, and goals
- Previous experience working with the homeless or other vulnerable populations preferred
- Excellent customer service and people skills
- Demonstrates integrity and strives for excellence in her/his work
- Action oriented-enjoys working hard and looks for challenges; able to act and react as necessary, even if limited information is available
- Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented
- A collaborative spirit and ability to work well individually as well as part of a team
