Media Relations Associate - Public Affairs

Come join the Office of Marketing & Communications where you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a team of PR pros, media experts and former journalists dedicated to promoting and enhancing NewYork-Presbyterian’s reputation among a range of external stakeholders as the preferred provider of health care in the New York area and beyond. The Media Relations Associate will work under the direction of the Director and the Program Managers of Media Relations.

The Office carries out this mission by creatively promoting the organization’s reputation for high-quality, innovative care and all the ways the hospital helps patients, families and communities “Stay Amazing.” The Media Relations team is the main interface between NewYork-Presbyterian and the external news media, and is responsible for public relations and crisis management across the entire NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise, encompassing 10 hospitals across the Greater New York area, more than 200 primary and specialty care clinics and medical groups, and an array of telemedicine services.

This team works with local, national, and international media outlets across broadcast, print, online, radio and new digital platforms to communicate and publicize news about the institution’s leadership in research and innovation, strategic service lines and patient care, unique human interest stories, role in the community, and important public health information.

Essential Job Duties

• Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and members of the media.
• Meets and maintains relationships with NewYork-Presbyterian physicians, nurses, service line administrators and staff to identify story ideas and opportunities to elevate the hospital, locally, nationally and internationally.
• Serves as member of the Public Affairs on-call team providing coverage on nights, weekends and holidays, and serving as the first point of contact to external and internal stakeholders regarding media inquiries, breaking news involving the hospital and other communications requests.
• Coordinates with journalists, film crews, photographers, producers and media in general to organize interviews and media projects at NewYork-Presbyterian.
• Coordinates press conferences and special projects.
• Monitors, tracks and reports on media outcomes.
• Provides on-site supervision of media crews, photographers, videographers and others during filming and photography on NYP campuses in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Westchester to ensure that the policies and procedures of the Hospital are maintained and that the Hospital’s interests are represented.
• Writes press releases, media alerts, pitches, social media copy and other materials aimed at promoting NewYorkPresbyterian to the news media and the public.
• Initiatives and patient stories for designated service lines.
• Participates in the management of the hospital’s response to emergency situations and sensitive issues, and assists in the development and execution of crisis communications strategies.
• Coordinates responses to media queries.
• Develops proactive earned media plans around institutional announcements, program milestones, awareness

Preferred Criteria

• Minimum of two years related experience in a public relations agency or broadcast news setting
• Degree major in Communications, English, Journalism or other related field

• Excellent writing and verbal skills
• Bachelor’s degree

Salary Range

$87,500-$94,000/Annual
