The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

We are seeking two Associate Consultants of Public & Media Relations to join the company’s global brand and communications team. One role will report to the Director II of Issues Management and Corporate Reputation and the other will report to the Director II of Brand Building Public Relations. The roles reside in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and will help further the company’s position in the marketplace.

The position on the Issues Management and Corporate Reputation team will be responsible for providing robust execution support and guidance on proactive and reactive external communications around the company’s critical corporate reputation efforts, including sustainability, issues forecasting, crisis response, and industry and government affairs topics, among other areas.

The position on the Brand Building Public Relations team will be responsible for providing robust execution support and guidance on proactive and reactive external communications around the company’s important brand-building efforts, including employee well-being and benefits, technology/innovation, philanthropy, and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), among other areas.

• This position may have in-office requirements depending on candidate location.**

In This Role, You Can Expect To

• Research and surface timely, relevant trends and media coverage.
• Engage directly with media and support on the creation of all corresponding materials, including statements, press releases, talking points, strategy memos and media training elements.
• Collaborate with and assist in managing agency partners.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment.
• Work with key internal partners to manage and counsel on external communications opportunities to advance the company’s reputation and brand.
• Provide support on and lead select external communications efforts, targeting audiences such as top-tier, consumer, business and trade media, customers, decision-makers and lawmakers, employees, and industry and business partners.
• Partner closely with management and team to support and execute strategies that include thought leadership, speaking engagements and media opportunities across owned, earned and paid channels.
• Track and report communication plan results.

Qualifications

• Approximately 3-5 years relevant communications experience in a corporate or agency environment.
• Creative thinker with ability to identify and engage with emerging PR verticals.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Ability to build internal networks, carry out a strategic plan and counsel partners in a thorough, thoughtful manner.
• Bachelor's degree (preferably in Communications or related field).
• An engaged consumer of all types of media.
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Strong sense of curiosity to learn the business, uncover critical storytelling components and analyze/solve problems.
• The ability to work autonomously in a matrixed organization.
• Experience in handling direct interactions with media and other external stakeholders.
