Job Summary
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Entry Level to support product development, sustainment, integration and modernization for Department of Homeland Security equipment used at border crossings and airports. This position is located in Sterling, VA.
In this position, the successful candidate will:
- Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical products, test equipment and integrate systems for evaluation.
- Conducts equipment and component tests and collects data.
- Applies principles of engineering, physics, and materials science.
- Conducts engineering analysis of data collected for various mechanical components.
- Designs, analyzes, manufactures, and maintains mechanical components and systems.
Responsibilities
- Completes assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
- Performs assignments of a routine degree of complexity by compiling and evaluating design and test data, analyzing technical data to determine appropriate limits and variables for product, process or materials specifications.
- Follows safety, security, quality, configuration management and operating policies and procedures.
- Prepares engineering drawings and design diagrams.
- Assists in the interpretation of results and writing of small sections of technical reports.
- Develops test procedures, collects data and conducts integrated testing.
- Troubleshoots and prepares equipment for test.
- Creates test procedures, operating instructions, maintenance instructions.
Key Qualifications
- Candidates should be highly motivated self-starters with a strong desire to learn.
- Experience that demonstrates solving complex technical problems associated with engineering and scientific activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
- Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Must be US Citizen
- The ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs, and to stage heavy equipment and test articles.
- Eligibility and willingness to obtain a Secret Clearance and DHS Suitability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DHS or CBP Suitability.
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Experience collecting and archiving test data using MS Excel, Access, or similar databases.
- Experience in one or more of the following technologies: License Plate Reader (LPR), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, digital signage, kiosks, biometrics, mobile technologies, artificial intelligence, IoT, Wireless communications, imaging systems, camera analytics, non-intrusive inspection equipment.
- Agile development process.
- Experience documenting test results for use in Test Reports.
