AECOM
is seeking an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer to be based in Austin, TX, and, or open to locations in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Baton Rouge, LA, and/or New Orleans, LA.

This position is expected to begin in June or September 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete laboratory testing assignments
  • Prepare Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) and drilling plans
  • Complete analyses to determine the most cost-effective foundation design solutions
  • Develop design parameters of the soils and rock
  • Work on projects that reduce the risk for flooding, like new designs or improvement design for levees, floodwalls, floodgates, dams, penstocks, tunnels, stormwater pump stations, channels, bank stabilization.
  • Work on high profile design and construction projects for USACE, TxDOT, USIBWC, NRCS, TCEQ local governments, etc.
  • Use computer programs including GeoStudio, UTexas4, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, FLAC, Settle3D, and MathCAD for geotechnical analyses
  • Complete geotechnical reports and proposals for review by senior technical staff
  • Learn about mitigation strategies for expansive soils and soft, organic soils, or karstic limestone foundations.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses to determine the bearing capacity, settlement, stability, and other characteristics of the subsurface materials
  • Assist in the procurement of subcontract drilling and laboratory testing services
  • Design embankment stabilization and under seepage solutions.
  • Supervise field drilling operations and construction inspections
  • Additionally, you could work on Design Build projects for both flood control projects and highways.
  • Design MSE walls and bridge foundations
  • Perform quality control checks on the laboratory test results
  • Establish boring locations in the field

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • Has Certification for Engineer in Training (EIT), or must obtain within 6 months after the start of employment
  • Graduated from ABET accredited university with Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and
  • Drivers license is required for this position, and motor vehicle records may be requested

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Willing to work overtime if needed to complete a task to meet the client’s schedule or request
  • Prior experience 0-3 years
  • Detail-oriented and technical
  • Master’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Ability to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time
  • Ability to work on fast-paced complex projects

The Geotechnical Engineering Team in Texas is unique, as it works on a variety of large, high-profile projects for a variety of industries including Water, Transportation, Architecture, Environmental, and Construction. This involves site investigations, soil laboratory testing interpretations, all manner of geotechnical analyses and calculations, rehabilitation designs, alternatives analyses, etc. Additionally, most of this team has always worked remotely, so you must have very strong communication skills and the ability to work with a team across the nation and the world.
