POSITION TITLE: CAD Draftsman (Entry Level)

REPORTS TO: Manager of Engineering

Position Summary

The CAD Draftsman operates Computer Aided Design (CAD) computer system, including creating, updating, and modifying maps, and performs manual drafting.

Essential Functions

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

• Create drawings and models from verbal and written specifications that are obtained from the project engineer, developing 3D models by analyzing 2D drawings and prototypes. Also examine and check engineering drawings to comply with cited specifications.
• Coordinate with other professionals to understand design concepts and establish requirements. When there is found a deficiency, revise designs to eliminate problems.
• Create designs that feature the relationships between various systems and parts by incorporating mathematical formulas to produce component specifications and reproduce schematics to be used according to reference materials, such as manuals.
• Use CAD software to create detailed drawings that include dimensions, procedures and required materials. Also use views and angles to show the association between systems and components, often consulting co-workers regarding design and layouts.
• Take care of drafting and designing assignments as instructed by supervision and review drawings for accuracy and completeness. Also, maintain all revisions of project drawings.
• Coordinate the collection of data and incorporate such information into drawings, maps and schematics, while consulting with engineers, architects, surveyors and other workers involved to prepare and present his drawings.
• Work closely with engineers, designers and other drafters to ensure the maintenance of coordination design efforts. Complete project responsibilities within scope, schedule and budget.
• Incorporate data from surveys and reports to prepare drawings, as well as make calculations for operations and supervision of technicians.
• Work with engineers regarding drafting standards, model design and accuracy, and design documentation.
• Collect reports, analyze codes and make calculations for the materials that are going to be used.
• Offer timely technical assistance and solutions to the design team and participate in project conference calls and meetings if required.

Marginal Functions

• Skilled in PC usage and associated software including Microsoft Office.
• Familiar with design parameters related to wastewater treatment equipment.
• Able to generate layout drawings from sketches and specifications.
• Proficient in AutoCAD /ProE Creo Parametric software.
• Knowledgeable of standard drafting practices and procedures.
• Excellent communications skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.
• Able to work with minimal supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time.

Physical Activities: Physical activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

The 3D CAD Technician must be able to concentrate for extended periods of time paying close attention to detail. The 3D CAD Technician's work environment does not require much physical movement. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. e.

Visual Acuity: Visual activities commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

See well (either naturally or with correction) and focus clearly on objects at varying distances. Ability to identify and distinguish color is required to evaluate color-coded identification systems and NDT results.

Knowledge

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, civil or construction science/management.

Experience

0-3 years experience with AutoCAD.

Familiar with surveying techniques and equipment, assigned discipline design and overall engineering standards.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids: (Which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position).

Levels, transits, safety equipment, drafting instruments and boilermaker tools.

Computer hardware and software, including: Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint); scheduling software (Microsoft Project, Primavera, Immpower); cost tracking software (Viewpoint); design software (AutoCAD); internet use and innovation. Ability to learn other software, if required, with company-provided training.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required

Valid state-issued driver's license.
