The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Entry Level DevOps Engineer to work Hybrid for our San Antonio Home Office I or Plano Legacy campus. The candidate selected for this position will join our team in Application Infrastructure as an entry-level DevOps engineer. They will work with USAA private cloud technologies, including application containerization and automation for our Kubernetes and OpenShift on-premises environment.

Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

This position is a hybrid work type and can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX; Plano. Hybrid roles help employees gain the best of both worlds – collaborating in-person in the office and working from home when needed to achieve focused results.

What You'll Do

• Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
• Create and improve automated tests and code quality
• Create and maintain technical documentation
• Improve application stability and scalability
• Verify and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
• Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
• Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis

What You Have

• Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
• Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
• Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT)
• Up to 2 years of software development experience.
• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
• Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

What Sets You Apart

• Limited experience with scripting languages to automate tasks and processes, i.e. Python, Bash
• US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
• Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts and principles
• Understanding of version control systems, i.e. Git
• Basic knowledge of containerization technologies, i.e. Docker.

What We Offer

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $59,070.00- $112,920.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
