Role Summary

This position is for a new greenfield facility that will be located in the Greater Memphis, Tennessee area. The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Materials department. Leads the materials team by creating and implementing Materials management objectives, and implementing policies and procedures to ensure key objectives are met. Ensures that organizational materials objectives are successfully achieved, primarily related to cost and delivery. Assists the General Manager in maintaining a plant wide commitment that the highest quality product possible is manufactured and delivered to the customer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains daily communication with Customers to ensure requirements are understood and supply is uninterrupted at the Customers’ facilities.
  • Manages the delivery and warehousing of component parts and raw materials.
  • Manage the flow of inventory from raw/purchased state through the production process to Customer shipments.
  • Take ownership for all aspects of materials management including fulfillment transactional quality, inventory accuracy, and productivity.
  • Provides leadership and daily direction to Materials Planners.
  • Manages and reviews cycle count activities to ensure integrity of inventory in ERP system.
  • Oversees tracking and execution of engineering changes from Bill of Materials to production implementation.
  • Monitors the inbound supply of materials to ensure an adequate supply at all times.
  • Monitors and strives to improve department KOI’s, optimize inventory levels and reduce cost.
  • Ensures supplier releases are accurately developed and distributed in a timely fashion.

  • Oversee all aspect of Production Scheduling, Inventory Control, Shipping and receiving.
  • Develop reliable relationships with the customers and their employees.
  • Meet customer schedules effectively through advanced planning and create ability to expedite shipments as required to meet customer deadlines.
  • Perform and ensure team performs all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all health, safety and environmental rules and regulations, promoting safety in the workplace.
  • Maintains top OEM service scores.
  • Responsible for inventory, operational targets including the month end and quarter close processes for inventories.
  • Involved in long-term planning with focus on overall strategy and accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives.
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity and ethics in all dealings with internal customers and outside suppliers.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Must have purchasing and material management experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience of progressive materials experience in a JIT automotive environment. Minimum of three years’ experience supervising others.
  • Must have good organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain Manager or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office software skills.
