Site Materials Manager
Location: Lenorah, Texas
Type: Full time
Overview
As the Site Materials Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing the efficient management and coordination of materials and equipment on the construction site. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will lead a team of warehouse expeditors, equipment operators, and clerks to ensure timely material deliveries, accurate inventory control, optimal utilization of resources, and effective procurement processes.
Responsibilities/Competencies
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to the warehouse expeditors, equipment operators, and clerks, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
  • Quality Control: Implement quality control measures for incoming materials and equipment, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize resource allocation within the materials management team to meet project demands effectively.
  • Sourcing and Supplier Selection: Identify potential suppliers and evaluate their capabilities to meet project requirements and quality standards.
  • Material and Equipment Inspection: Collaborate with the QA/QC team to inspect and verify the quality of materials and equipment upon receipt.
  • Logistics and Transportation: Coordinate the logistics and transportation of materials and equipment to and from the construction site, optimizing cost and efficiency.
  • Vendor Management: Establish and maintain positive relationships with vendors, negotiating pricing, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations related to materials handling and equipment operation.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and professional development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Coordination with Construction Team: Collaborate with the construction team to anticipate material and equipment needs and support project schedules.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee the management of materials and equipment inventory, ensuring accurate tracking, stock level optimization, and proper storage.
  • Any Reasonable Request from Your Supervisor: Be receptive to and fulfill any reasonable request from your supervisor in support of project goals and objectives.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the utilization and maintenance of construction equipment, coordinating with equipment operators to ensure efficient operation and scheduling.
  • Purchase Requisitions: Review purchase requisitions, ensuring alignment with project needs and budget constraints.
  • Materials Planning: Collaborate with the project team to develop comprehensive materials planning strategies, ensuring timely availability of materials and equipment.
  • Cost Control: Work with the Project Manager to develop and manage materials and equipment budgets, monitoring expenses and seeking cost-saving opportunities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement in materials management and procurement, implementing best practices and lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Procurement Coordination: Work closely with the procurement team to coordinate material and equipment procurement, expediting deliveries as necessary.
  • Document Control: Maintain accurate records of materials, equipment, and transactions, including receipts, issues, and transfers.
Requirements
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience: At least 5-8 years of experience in materials management, logistics, or supply chain roles, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a leadership position.
  • Construction Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of materials management practices and challenges in the industrial construction industry.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate inventory tracking and documentation.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven leadership abilities to effectively manage a diverse team and drive performance.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills to address materials-related challenges and maintain smooth operations.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Relevant certifications are advantageous.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing project needs and navigate potential challenges in materials management.
  • Communication: Effective communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with various stakeholders and team members.
  • Computer Proficiency: Proficient in using materials management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
As the Site Materials Manager, your expertise in materials management, procurement, and leadership will be crucial in optimizing the flow of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery, and supporting the project team in meeting timelines and delivering high- quality results. Your dedication to efficiency, coordination, and cost-effectiveness will contribute significantly to the successful execution of the industrial construction project.
Daily Duties
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to prepare and update daily material status reports.
  • Manage material inventory and storage to prevent shortages and minimize excess stock.
  • Maintain accurate records of material transactions and update the materials database daily.
  • Monitor the availability of materials and equipment on the construction site and coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with the construction team to ensure materials are distributed to the appropriate work areas as needed.
  • Address any material-related issues or discrepancies promptly and work with the Project Manager to resolve them.
  • Oversee the receiving, inspection, and acceptance of materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to review daily material requirements and priorities.
Weekly Duties
  • Participate in weekly progress meetings with the Project Manager and construction team to discuss materials updates and issues.
  • Assist in conducting weekly inventory audits to ensure accurate stock levels and prevent material shortages.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align materials management with the overall project schedule and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to prepare and adjust the weekly material procurement and distribution plan based on progress and changes.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to negotiate contracts and pricing for materials.
  • Provide input for the weekly project status report related to materials management activities.
  • Review and analyze weekly materials consumption and waste data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to implement cost-saving measures in materials procurement.
Monthly Duties
  • Collaborate with the construction team to identify potential materials-related challenges and propose improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to review the long-term materials management objectives and strategies.
  • Participate in monthly project review meetings with clients and stakeholders, providing materials management updates.
  • Review and verify that all materials documentation, such as material certifications and test reports, is up to date.
  • Conduct monthly assessments of material usage patterns and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Assist in preparing monthly materials management statistics and data for management reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager to update and adjust the long-term materials management plan based on project progress.
  • Prepare monthly materials management progress reports for the Project Manager and senior management.
In this role, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial for successfully managing materials in industrial construction projects. The Materials Manager must work closely with the onsite Project Manager to ensure that materials are procured, handled, and distributed efficiently, contributing to the smooth operation and success of the construction project.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to walk the property and laydown yards.
