Summary/Objective:

SB Business Unit Material Manager Trainee is responsible for the application of Floorplate, Secondary Material &
Material Department coverage

Objectives:

1) Optimize material utilization & profitability.

2) Learn all machine capabilities & learn to better understand SAE/ASTM specs.

3) Work with all Material Managers, learn all their gauges & responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Review material “On Hold” from previous date/s and collaborate with Sales team to make best decision

/risk analysis.

  • Review Unplanned/Planned material returned to inventory from operational processes to determine the

best next step/risk scenario.

  • Aid in working with Mill Technical representatives in quality/surface identifying and/or improvement

concepts.

  • Timely response to material inquiries from sales force to maximize on business ventures.
  • Manage sales backlogs daily in a timely manner to meet sales expectations and customer demands.
  • Review & maximize on PNL (profit & loss) statements from previous orders to understand & enhance

profitability margins.

  • Manage aged inventory with the identification of utilizing aged material first.
  • Working hand in hand with all Material Managers to learn their gauges.
  • Learning our spec system & all the many types of specs you will be dealing with on daily basis.
  • Spending time in shop learning about all the machines & their capabilities.

Education/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years sales and/or steel material experience required within the steel service center

spectrum.
