Manufacturing Engineering Line Lead - Charging

What to Expect Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing “The Machine that builds the Machine”. We work with the cross-functional teams (Product Design, Quality, Production, Sustaining, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high-quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce novel or next generation Tesla charging products.
What You’ll Do

• Provide DFM (Design for Manufacturability) input to design team for process and yield improvements
• Determine, specify, and procure equipment that is necessary for all manufacturing processes used to build the product
• Author documentation to train technicians and line operators on new processes and equipment
• Manage suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
• Characterize and validate new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
• Lead development of new manufacturing processes
• Work with equipment integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixtures for medium to high-volume production
• Perform process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing activities, and capacity modeling/simulation
• Lead development of manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds
• Determine layout of production line workstations for optimal material flow and operational efficiency

What You’ll Bring

• Proficiency specifying and designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, CATIA is a plus)
• 5+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical or electromechanical systems
• Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation
• Ability and flexibility to one day support a highly automated line and the next support a completely manual general assembly line
• Experience with chemical dispensing systems (refrigerant, adhesives, potting, coolant, and sealants)
• Familiar with fastening strategies used in transducer-based torque driving
• Experience working with ESD sensitive components
• Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Experience introducing new products and new processes from a prototype environment to a production environment

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $258,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
