The Opportunity


This position works out of our Pleasanton, CA location in the Heart Failure Division.


In Abbott’s Heart Failure (HF) business, we’re developing solutions to diagnose, monitor and manage heart failure, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.


Abbott Heart Failure designs and manufactures complex, life-saving medial devices.


This position will design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production


schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality.


What You’ll Work On


  • Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Efficiency, and throughput.
  • Interface with vendors for incoming components
  • Enhancing productivity and product quality
  • Protocol and report writing
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing process and equipment
  • Resolves and/or facilitates resolution of problems including identifying causes to prevent re-occurence
  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies,
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS),
  • Collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Generate and modify manufacturing process documentation
  • Utilize tools like Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, and SPC to improve processes
  • Work with cross functional teams as required
  • Understand manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor
  • Design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production schedules while
  • Evaluation of production equipment
  • Production support and process validation
  • Operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and
  • Develop and implement process improvements


Required Qualifications


  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) Mechanical engineering or a related field


Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrated experience with CAD systems. Basic understanding of mechanical reasoning, physics, electronics, metal working and plastics.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • 0-3 years relevant engineering experience
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel approximately 5%, including internationally.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

The salary for this role is between $53,700 – $107,300
