BeVera Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and Malaria Junior Lab Research Assistant to support the CDC’s Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria (DPDM).

The objective of this contract is to support CDC’s objectives to assist with the augmentation of multiplex assays, and data collection on various sample sets from CDC-initiated studies as well as malaria studies initiated by collaborators. The contractor will also be expected to present findings at CDC internal presentations, in peer-reviewed manuscripts, and at international meetings if needed (non-conference).

The samples provided through CDC studies (CGH tracking #0900f3eb819d4c63, Nigeria Multi-disease serologic surveillance using stored specimens (NMS4)) are de-identified or anonymous specimens of low biohazard risk. No personally identifiable information for any of the specimens will be available to contract staff. Laboratory testing of the samples and development of the assays will be performed at CDC facilities (CDC Roybal campus).

Salary Range: $50k - $55k


Qualifications


Job Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare reports, charts and graphs and present data at internal laboratory meetings; Perform analysis on data and provide summaries to technical monitors.
  • Participate in studies to integrate novel targets antibody detection multiplex bead assays (MBA). Maintain an official laboratory logbook of daily work, maintain a log of data generated, and provide monthly progress reports. Provide a final report at completion of the task.
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of LSDB’s laboratory quality management system. This is done by maintaining laboratory standard operating procedures, documenting any non-conformances, ensuring appropriate corrective actions, appropriately maintaining laboratory equipment and calibration schedules, and remaining current on all required laboratory and administrative trainings. Follow all LSDB safety procedures.
  • Assist in the development of standard operating procedures and perform technical laboratory work to validate new MBA targets as useful malaria indicators. Maintain an official laboratory logbook of daily work, maintain a log of data generated, and provide monthly progress reports. Provide a final report at completion of the task.
  • Test the efficacy of proposed MBA antigen/antibody targets using existing samples stored by laboratories in DPDM’s Laboratory Sciences and Diagnostics Branch (LSDB). Maintain an official laboratory logbook of daily work, maintain a log of data generated, and provide monthly progress reports. Provide a final report at completion of the task.

  • Track and manage the storage of laboratory results according to LSDB Quality Management procedures. Analyze results and generate scientific reports to present to CDC peers, non-CDC collaborators, and the larger scientific community (through peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference presentations). QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements for successful performance under the anticipated contract.

  • This position requires a 40 hour work week that consist of 8 duty hours. Start times for all positions must occur between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., Monday – Friday, excluding federal holidays and weekends
  • Experience in implementing best practices in a public health setting.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Capable of ensuring an appropriate quality assurance program is in place for continuous surveillance to meet all accreditation guidelines
  • Experience working with/in the CDC
  • Ability to produce policies and procedures for sections of the laboratory, ensuring specific objectives, priorities and standards of care are consistent with the regulatory agencies requirements
  • Skilled at verification of the test procedures performed and the establishment of the laboratories test performance characteristics
  • Bachelor’s Degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science with >2 years of related job experience.
  • Understands and complies with regulatory requirements surrounding laboratory activities, including legal, technical, professional and administrative rules to ensure sustained compliance with governmental accreditation agencies
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high quality/error free deliverables.
  • Strong background performing data analysis including statistical methods.
  • Experience with analyzing large complex datasets independently, conducting data management and quantitative analysis research.
  • Master’s Degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science with >2 years of related job experience.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with emphasis on writing, data communication and visualization skills
