Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research Assistant will perform research activities within the using approved techniques. Conducts patient recruitment, administers questionnaires, abstracts medical records, maintains patient databases, performs administrative tasks, assists in grant preparation, performs literature searches and participates with the research team in preparation of data and other reports. May also assist the principal investigator with interpreting experimental results, and in preparing and writing manuscripts.
Job Details:
The Center of Cross-Organ Vascular Pathology (COVP) cellular and molecular biology laboratory within the Section of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine is seeking to hire a research assistant with the goal to understand various aspects of renal diseases, their pathogenesis and effects on organ systems and has been at the forefronts of developing novel pathogenic biomarker and drug targets for in patients with kidney diseases.
The research focus of the group is to characterize the pathogenesis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in patients with chronic kidney disease. A successful candidate will conduct research under guidance and supervision at the intersection of cellular biology, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry. The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team including clinical nephrologists, molecular and cellular biologists and proteomic experts and system biologists of Boston University and Boston University School of Medicine and MIT. Our research leverages a wide array of models such as zebrafish, mouse, rat and pigs and also humans.
An ideal candidate for this position is a graduate from a Bachelor's or Master's program with some experience in fundamental lab techniques such as western blotting, DNA gels, basic lab work and if possible animal (mice) handling, is self-motivation and looking to pursue a PhD or MD or MD PhD
route in the future.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
  • Prefer experience in clinical research, public health experience or working with children and families.
  • Previous experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research preferred
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Bilingual candidate preferred, not required, fluent in spoken and written English, Spanish, and/or Haitian Creole.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Experience with statistical software a plus.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
