What we want


The Research Assistant is responsible for Assisting in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures, management of day-to-day lab functions and recording results for a series of closely-controlled experiments.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education:


  • Appropriate Bachelor's or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.


Preferred Experience:


  • Experience in a biomedical research lab with basic biology techniques.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • PCR, Western Blot, protein & RNA analysis.
  • Note taking and organizational skills.


Responsibilities:


  • Research: Manage mouse colony and direct in vivo experiments. Work regularly with mice to maintain mouse colony. Direct mouse breeding, genotyping, and routine in vivo experiments. Perform hands on biology lab techniques to include PCR, Western Blot, protein & RNA analysis and mammalian tissue culture. Record data for publications, presentations and future grant submissions. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Laboratory Management: Assist in planning research on support laboratory methods and techniques, carrying out procedures. Coordination and management of day-to-day lab functions and recording results for a series of closely-controlled experiments. Order laboratory supplies, equipment maintenance and cleaning of lab benches and glassware, maintain laboratory safety manuals. Act as lab liaison between PI and undergraduate student assistants. Coordinate student work schedules and oversee student research projects.
