Job Description

NWEA has immediate openings for a Literacy Consultant, Elementary Education within our Professional Learning Delivery team. This is a part-time remote opportunity and NWEA will consider candidates located in any state within the United States.


Position summary

NWEA’s literacy-focused professional learning services are designed to work seamlessly with NWEA partners to deepen educators’ pedagogical content knowledge, support educators as they integrate equitable instructional practice into their responsive teaching and learning cycles, and help educators explore their identities to develop and strengthen the mindset that all students are capable of learning.

We are seeking an experienced early learning leader who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality literacy professional learning. The Literacy Consultant, Elementary Education draws upon deep pedagogical expertise and experience in facilitation, coaching, and consultative services to help all kids learn in K-5 literacy. Additionally, this role will provide thought partnership and content review of professional learning assets to develop a deep understanding of NWEA’s range of products and solutions.

As a Literacy Consultant, Elementary Education, you will deepen the acquisition and application of adult learning, the development of skills, and the coordination of methodologies and system-wide organizational practices to support educators and improve student growth. In this role, you will work collaboratively with other teams across NWEA including our internal learning and partner accounts teams to accomplish the goals of organization-wide programs our partners select. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in early literacy education and experience in applying content and curricular concepts to professional learning as well as experience in developing professional learning curriculum and materials for workshops with educators.


Candidates must be able to articulate a clear vision and aligned strategies for equitable and excellent instruction teachers can implement with students in K-5 settings. This is a part-time, remote opportunity where candidates may work remotely from any location within the United States.


Responsibilities

Delivery:

  • Access, analyze, interpret, and apply multiple sources of data accurately and summarize results in reports for stakeholders as required
  • Participate in efforts related to beta and user experience testing
  • Coach and facilitate discussions and dialogue with educators, coaches, instructional leaders, school leadership teams, district and organizational leaders, state education agency staff, and other key stakeholders focused on the teaching and learning of literacy.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners in a manner that respects academic, cultural, linguistic, political, and social nuances
  • Utilize systems-thinking practices and tools, inquiry, assessment literacy, educational best practices to address relevant and timely issues impacting the learning environment
  • Identify opportunities and enact plans for customization and differentiation, reflection, planning, and opportunities for peer-to-peer learning and sharing
  • Lead delivery teams and/or personally deliver high quality, responsive, agile, and collaborative literacy focused professional learning to meet the multi- dimensional goals
  • Gather qualitative and quantitative data to inform professional learning design and delivery including supporting internal and external evaluation services

Development:

  • Participate in learning experiences with colleagues to maintain expertise related to the products and services provided by the organization
  • Innovate beyond existing professional learning models to best fit educator needs, while contributing to proprietary suites of tools and resources to support instruction

Other:

  • Travel, as required, for team and/or organizational meetings as well as oversight and gathering of feedback related to beta, piloting, and evaluation
  • Perform other work as necessary to ensure the success of the team and the entire organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager
  • Travel across multiple time zones

Education and experience

  • Minimum of five years’ K-5 classroom teaching experience in literacy
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple concurrent requests
  • Master’s degree in Education or related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered in lieu of Master’s degree (required)
  • Experience, at scale, contributing to, and delivering in-person and virtual professional development sessions and coaching supports (preferred)
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working with school leadership teams (preferred)
  • Minimum of three years’ experience facilitating professional learning, coaching teachers and/or leaders, and/or consulting using data and evidence to inform decision-making (required)
  • Exemplary communication skills over various channels with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with NWEA products and services (preferred)
  • Experience with K – 2 literacy preferred (ADDED FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION)
  • Ability to travel regionally and nationally
