Job Description

Job Overview and Purpose

The Nurse Educator Consultant (NEC) collaborates with PreferUS Healthcare management and staff in the US and China to assist our overseas clients with improving their nurse leadership and competencies.This could include any single or combined function of the following: assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate, and revise educational programming for all levels of nursing personnel and select non-nursing personnel. Educational programs typically include, but are not limited to orientation, grand rounds, continuing education, and in-services. Other services may include, but are not limited to process, performance and service-delivery consultation and contributions to the organization through ad-hoc or permanently established councils, committees, and workgroups. The NEC will be a spokesperson for PreferUS Healthcare and therefore participation in public forums is expected.

Position-Specific Responsibilities


General

·Travels to China to support client requirements and the terms of the consulting engagement.

·Demonstrates skill in navigating and communicating in a complex, international environment.

·As required, participates in PreferUS Healthcare ad hoc projects and educational activities. Communicates effectively with colleagues.

·Participates in public speaking events or forums related to nursing education and professional development.

·Manages time effectively for preparation, execution, and follow-up consultation activities for all engagements.


Education

·Assesses plans, develops, implements, and evaluates nursing education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of the client, which supports the US model of professional nursing practice.Examples of educational programs would include:

oLeadership Development

oEffective Communication

oIntroduction to JCI

oSBAR Communication

·Ensures all educational programs meet US practice standards. Follows US education practice standards and stays abreast of and incorporates current research into nursing education practice.

·Assists with implementation of nursing committees that follow US & JCI best practices.

·Develops and delivers/coordinates other educational programs as agreed upon with the client (e.g., Grand Rounds, in-services, continuing education, job-specific and specialty curricula) to support competence and professional growth of the client’s nursing staff. Examples of topics would include:

oQuality Improvement

oWorkflow Simulation

oPeri-Op Nurse Training

·Develops curricula that is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses the appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment.

·Plans, develops, and evaluates the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and the retention of staff for clients. Provides leadership to preceptors and serves as a role model through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.

Position Qualifications and Experience Profile


·Completion of a nursing school program and receipt of a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in nursing.

·Maintains a US nursing license.

Physical Requirements for Position


Physically fit to perform the tasks of a travelling NEC in an international healthcare environment.
