The Lab Tech Manager will manage the laboratory's incoming and outgoing work, and ensure the safe and efficient daily operation of the landfill laboratory. The ideal candidate for this position will posses the following qualifications:
- 3 years work experience in an environmental lab
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience writing standard operating procedures (SOPs) is ideal
- Bachelor's Degree in chemical environmental, biological sciences, physical sciences or engineering with at least at least 16 college semester credit hours in chemistry
- Attention to detail
- Seven years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement)
Ensures the safe and efficient daily operation of the landfill laboratory.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
- Performs routine laboratory functions as assigned.
- Ensures safety, cleanliness and organization of laboratory work area and related storage areas.
- Implements waste analysis plan and RCRA regulations as it pertains to analysis and testing.
- Facilitates the receipt of materials for treatment and disposal in compliance with WM policies and procedures, including state and federal guidelines.
- Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among employees.
- Keeps district manager fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his/her attention.
- Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
- Makes personal contact with customers and assists them with questions and/or concerns as appropriate.
- Manages all laboratory personnel, data, and quality control.
- Ensures that the health and safety of the employees and environment is maximized.
- Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
- Oversees personnel needs of the laboratory including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Reviews special waste to determine acceptability for hazardous waste disposal.
- Works with other supervisors/managers to coordinate services and keep them informed as issues arise.
- Applies appropriate treatment and disposal methodologies to be utilized at the facility for the specific waste.
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees. This includes:
Indirect supervision of 6 full-time employees.

A. Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Chemistry, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience.
- Experience: Seven years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
