LABORATORY MANAGER, CHUNG LAB, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory, to manage a multi-year, cross-institutional research project as part of an interdisciplinary team devoted to developing and applying novel technologies (e.g., CLARITY/mELAST/eFLASH) for an integrative and comprehensive understanding of large-scale, complex biological systems such as the human brain. The lab develops methods that enable rapid extraction of system-wide structural, molecular, and genomic information from intact tissues and combine these technologies with physiological and behavioral approaches to study the function and dysfunction of mammalian brain and other organs. Responsibilities include operating specialized research instruments, performing maintenance, and coordinating design improvements; designing and fabricating custom components/tools/devices that enhance the functionality of existing instruments or assist the research of other lab members; conducting standard lab techniques and functions; providing feedback on data quality; preparing and executing experiments, including preparing buffers, reagents, and tissue samples; troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining instruments and recommending user manual and operating procedure changes; serving as the lab’s environmental health and safety representative; organizing, creating, and disseminating safety training; organizing cross-institutional research projects and meetings to communicate data to collaborators; composing research reports; planning and conducting end-to-end high-throughput experiments and working to improve efficiency and quality of data collection; maintaining databases; and training lab members in technical skills and experimental protocols.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or related field; four years of device design and fabrication experience; meticulous attention to detail; excellent organizational, planning, and written and verbal communication skills; self-motivation; and ability to troubleshoot experiments, multitask, carefully document work in written records, and work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.
