Lab Asst Iii/Phleb/Proc

The Laboratory Assistant III primarily performs laboratory specimen processing, specimen send outs and/or Microbiology specimen processing (including AFB processing). Performs clerical and phlebotomy functions (including pediatric and nursery), as described in the Laboratory Assistant I and II job descriptions, as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy functions, including adult, pediatric and neonates according to SOP as required.
• Prepares stains and reagents according to SOP.
• Performs specimen handling and processing (sorting, matching, prioritizing, centrifuging, and aliquoting) and/or microbiology specimen processing, plating and AFB processing.
• Performs and shares all the job responsibilities designated for the positions of Lab Assistant II and Lab Assistant I as assigned.
• Acts under the direction of the Laboratory Coordinators in other necessary activities if consistent with training, education, and professional ethics.
• Performs specimen send-out protocol according to SOP.

QUALIFICATIONS/JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

• Two years laboratory experience (including phlebotomy)
• EXPERIENCE
• Knowledge of specimen send-outs and microbiology specimen processing, preferred
• Experience utilizing a Laboratory Information System, preferably Misys.
• Two years of college preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE

• Phlebotomy certification (CPT1) from a California Department of Health Services

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

• Basic typing skills.
• Ability to perform all phlebotomy functions, including adult, pediatric and neonates.
• Familiarity with laboratory terminology.
