As a Junior Underwriter , you will learn to analyze new business health insurance applications in order to assess risk of future claims for our company at an entry level position. You must be trainable, self-motivated, able to work independently, confident in making your own decisions, have the ability to analyze medical information, work well with other team members, communicate effectively orally and written.

This position is full-time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to work our normal business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm CST, Monday - Wednesday and Friday. Employees will be required to work 8:00am – 6:00pm, Thursdays. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime or weekends.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Completing additional tasks and special projects as needed.
• Assessing Medical Risk for the Company.
• Knowledge and/or ability to learn our underwriting guidelines, medical terminology, prescription name/usage, as well as our in-house and vendor systems.
• Responding to internal and external queries regarding application submissions.

Required Qualifications:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word (updating/editing documents), Excel (updating/editing workbooks), Outlook (receiving/sending emails) and TEAMs
• High School Diploma / GED (or higher) OR equivalent work experience
• Ability to work full-time, Monday – Wednesday and Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm CST, Thursdays employees will be required to work 8:00am – 6:00pm including the flexibility to work occasional overtime given the business need
• 3+ years of combined education, work and/or volunteer experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience in a health insurance underwriting role
• Experience working as a telecommuter
• Experience working in health insurance industry

Telecommuting Requirements:

• Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
• Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
• Reside within Central Time Zone
• Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
