General Notes:
UT Austin offers the following for part-time employees:
  • Free UHD meal during shift
  • Free Capital Metro transportation
Responsibilities:
  • Check temperatures of food, freezers, refrigerators, and heating equipment to ensure proper functioning. Follow all food, physical safety, and sanitation guidelines set for by UHD. Properly label and store all perishable food. Practice proper glove and hand washing procedures. Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, and stocking of supplies/retail products. Complete daily service records.
  • Accurately enter and process all hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees or teas, and baked goods according to standard recipes and requested customized transactions in Micros, a point-of-sale system. Correctly handle monetary funds, reconcile daily reports, and complete opening and closing documents.
  • Encourage and promote diversity in a team environment. Assist supervisors with training of new staff. Maintain productivity by utilizing time management skills.
  • Prepare or serve hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees or teas, and baked goods according to standard recipes and requested customization.
  • Acknowledges and greets customers with enthusiasm while offering excellent customer service. Suggestively sell items and be knowledgeable of current specials and promotions. Have concise menu and product knowledge. Take initiative and demonstrate leadership skills.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience with operating standard beverage and/or kitchen equipment.
  • Experience working as a Café Attendant (Barista) or similar position in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.
  • Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining Food Safety Training and/or ServSafe throughout employment.
R elevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience preparing drinks in a high-volume / fast-paced environment.
  • 6 months or more experience working as a Café Attendant (Barista) or similar position in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility.
  • Experience using a cash register/cash handling.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work with a diverse staff and customer base.
  • Experience working with Starbucks or Petes Coffee products.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision.
Salary Range
$ 18.00 per hour

Work Schedule
Workdays, area, and work hours (19 hrs. max per week) may vary based on the needs of the unit and University Housing and Dining (UHD).
