IT Program Intern
Start: Summer 2023
Location: Osceola, AR

At Big River Steel, we will welcome your technical skills—and visionary thinking—as an IT Intern. BRS’s 12-week internship provides students with valuable experience needed for a successful beginning to any IT career. Our interns will work hand-in-hand with top IT leaders and vendors to solve real-world problems—whether we’re providing basic end-user support, configuring a wireless network, or defining an Active Directory forest. At the end of the summer, our intern will understand real world concepts to start a career in IT.

§ Working in a fast-paced, innovative, and change-oriented work environment
§ Assignments will typically focus on core IT processes in Network, Client/Server, Database, Web Development, Architecture, System Integration, and/or project management
§ Building a strong network of peers and mentors
§ Attending on-site technical and professional development classes
§ Learn and develop skills in information technology to include networking of computers, system wide back up of data, and storage of data.
§ Assist staff in performing system backup and maintenance functions.
§ Assist in installation of PC hardware and software.
§ Assist in network and hardware troubleshooting.
§ Perform special projects as determined by the intern supervisor.
§ Assist in updating user and technical documentation.
§ Gain hands on practical experience to the full gamut of Help Desk roles and responsibilities.
§ Run calls to troubleshoot desktop problems for Macintosh and PC computers

Required Qualifications:
§ Pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Systems, Electrical), Computer/Management Information Systems
§ Academic excellence

Preferred Qualifications:
§ Minimum final grade point average of 3.0 or better
§ High-level understanding of business and technology concepts/strategy

Work Schedule:
- The intern will be scheduled to work 30-40 hours a week
- An intern should expect to spend a minimum of 10-15 hours per week in structured activities in our local office.
- On the job training will occur daily at the direction of the intern supervisor
Program Incentives:
The primary incentive in this program is the opportunity to investigate a career opportunity in the Information Technology industry with hands on experience prior to graduation. Once completed, the intern will have sufficient knowledge necessary to determine if a career in the Information Technology industry is the right opportunity to pursue.
