Job Description
We have an opening for this role that will work remote from home. While we prefer candidates to work remote in Ohio, we will consider candidates in the additional states noted in our territory with this listing. This role will report to a Manager, Material Damage Claims.
JOB OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate and adjust material damage claims which do not typically require in-person contact or on-site inspection.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Capable of reviewing and writing estimates while meeting acceptable productivity, turnaround and quality standards.
  • Negotiate, settle and pay vehicle damage and total loss claims.
  • Review vehicle damage claims, write appraisals and/or review appraisals from body shops, preferred programs, smart phone apps, independent appraisers, company appraisers and other sources.
  • Handle automobile material damage claims in compliance with Encova Claims department polices for contact, communication, cycle time, coverage verification, evaluation/negotiation and resolution of the file.
  • Handle/monitor title procurement on vehicles/equipment considered total losses.
  • Model the leadership behaviors outlined in the Vision.
  • Handle salvage disposal on vehicles that are considered total losses.
  • Serve as a member of claims and other company integrated teams as assigned.
  • Handle rental claims.
  • May be required to testify as to material damage issues in lawsuits involving vehicle damage.
  • Assist in catastrophe claims handling throughout the company operating territory.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to other material damage appraisers and claims resolution specialists on the material damage aspect of a claim.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Keep up-to-date on the changes and advances in vehicle repair and estimating methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Overnight travel or extended stays may be required upon request.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Additional education or experience with heavy trucks or specialty equipment (boats, campers, and motorcycles) is preferred.
  • Must pass the claims adjuster license exam(s) for applicable states as requested by management based on staffing needs.
  • Must exhibit strong customer service skills.
  • The individual should actively demonstrate the skills and abilities listed in the Material Damage Specialist I job description.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to negotiate, settle and pay vehicle damage and total loss claims.
  • Must exhibit exceptional knowledge of vehicle repair techniques and methods.
  • The candidate must have at least three years’ experience as a material damage appraiser or its equivalent in the industry.
  • Internal candidates must have achieved an overall rating of at least “Meets Expectations” on the last annual performance review.
  • Demonstrate the ability to efficiently use computer software used by Encova to write estimates and value total losses required. Ex: CCC One estimating, Guidewire
  • Must have previous claims handling experience.
