In 1984 Jim Rosen founded Highland Baking Co. as a family-owned fresh delivery business in the Chicagoland area. With over forty years of baking industry experience, Jim's passion for both great bread and excellent service has fueled the company's growth. Under Jim's steadfast leadership, the modest five-person operation has since grown to include two commercial manufacturing plants, employing hundreds of team members, with distribution services spanning the nation.
As our company grows, so does our HR Team. We have an immediate opening for an experienced HR Generalist to work in our Northbrook, IL location. A successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, adapts easily to change, and values the opportunity to make a difference.
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing a broad range of duties to support the daily operations of HR programs within the organization, including occupational health and safety. Performs routine HR tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including compensation, benefits, leave of absences, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance, productivity, recognition, and training. This position reports to the Director of Human Resources.
WORK SCHEDULE: M - F 10A to 6P
WORK LOCATION: Northbrook, IL and it is 100% onsite. On occasion, this role may require travel to our South Carolina facility.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as a front-line point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, practices, benefits, and any general HR questions.
• Recruits, interviews, and facilitates hiring qualified job applicants for open hourly positions; collaborates with department managers to understand skills and competencies required.
• Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
• Work with the Human Resources team to resolve employee relations issues as they arise.
• Attends and participates in employee discussions, disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
• Support timekeeping and payroll activities for both salaried and hourly workforce.
• Drive employee engagement through effective communication, employee events, and activities.
• Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; recommends best practices; reviews policies and procedures to maintain compliance.
• Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, or aptitude exams.
• Organizes and conducts new hire orientation and onboarding; creates a positive first impression of the company and serves as a role model for Highland Baking Company values.
• Manage paper and electronic file systems, including set-up, maintenance, and organization of all HR files.
• Audit and track employee authorization documents to ensure compliance.
• Follows and understands proper Good Hygiene, Safe Work Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to aid in providing a safe quality product.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• At least 3-5 years of Human Resources experience is required.
• Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
• Experience with ADP WorkforceNow
