Job Description
The Schaumburg Township District Library is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team. We are looking for an energetic, competent and detail-oriented Human Resources Generalist to support all locations. This is a full time, 37.5 hours per week, salaried position that will be required to work various hours based on the needs of the Library.
The hourly rate range for this position is $23.17-34.76; based on skills and qualifications.
Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for carrying out the daily responsibilities in the Human Resources department, including assistance in: recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, benefits, database management. The Human Resources Generalist is also responsible for maintaining positive employee relations and promoting employee satisfaction through education of Library and HR policies and fostering a positive work environment.

Essential Duties And Responsbilities
  • Excellent collaboration and team skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enter benefited time off on employee’s time sheets for each pay period in coordination with Department Directors.
  • Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of the Library and the Library Board, and all information related to financial, personnel, legal, vendor and operation records in accordance with Library policies and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Work directly with the Human Resources Manager regarding all HR endeavors.
  • Abide by Library established HR processes and current employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to follow directions; take initiative and work independently, when needed.
  • Follow up with employees returning from Short Term Disability or unpaid leave while processing accommodations (ADA) paperwork.
  • Excellent organization skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Coordinate the on-boarding process: including organizing employee orientation, creating new employee files and detailed database records, ensuring all necessary paperwork is properly filled out and submitted to appropriate persons.
  • Maintain and update employee database records and information, as needed; make sure records are in order for payroll processing.
  • Foster positive employee relations and work to solve employee issues that surface or are brought to attention.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work well under pressure.
  • Communicate problems that arise with supervisor or designee; particularly situations where patrons are not following Patron Code of Conduct.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Human Resources Management.
  • Under the direction of the Huma Resources Manager, be a vital source of human resources information in answering employee questions.
  • Support Human Resources Manager in educating employees on and enforcing policies.
  • Maintain employee records with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain working knowledge of computer systems and technology needed in the position or as an employee.
  • Assist in the participation and submittal of annual reports and surveys.
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required or requested.
  • Ability to manage and administer a broad range of tasks across the various HR disciplines.
  • Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
  • Work with employees regarding transitioning to Long Term Disability while gathering and submitting all documentation for provider.
  • Positive, personable, and approachable.
  • Keep apprised of Library programs, policies and procedures, and building layout to most effectively assist patrons.
  • Assist in the preparation and roll-out of annual employee performance reviews.
  • Assist in the recruitment process: includes screening, interviews, verifying work-history and references, as needed.
  • Coordinate the exit process: following employee termination procedures, advising employees on their rights and any benefits to which they are entitled.
  • Process FMLA paperwork and request relating to benefit time off; including Short Term Disability Leave, Parental Leave, and Sick Leave.
Educational And Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in Human Resources Management, or related field, from four-year college or university with one to two years related experience; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
