Job Description
Global Technology Services (GTS) is Aegon's global IT partner that provides infrastructure services, information security and global/corporate application support for Aegon's businesses around the world. From 6 locations in the US, the Netherlands, UK, and Hungary, we support 20+ country units and 24000+ employees world-wide. Our support consists of a wide range of centralized global IT services including by not limited to programming, database management, project management, and agile/dev/ops. All of these teams work closely together to provide innovative and digital solutions as well as critical technology support. This collaboration is essential for enabling Aegon's businesses around the globe to provide the best solutions and customer experience for our customers and shareholders.
The Head of Global Procurement and Sourcing is a critical role in the Aegon organization. This role is responsible for a total spend of EUR 1.6 billion, of which EUR 700+ million is IT spend, establishes the strategy for the procurement function and improves productivity for the firm. The firm is in a very exciting time with a significant transformation underway. The Head of Global Procurement and Sourcing will be integral to the strategy of the overall firm given the opportunity to better leverage our vendors, make strategic procurement decisions and streamline operations.
The Head of Global Procurement and Sourcing is responsible for providing thought leadership relative to the following:
  • Vendor Management – minimize spend and maximize vendor leverage on a global level; establish performance standards and expectations for selected suppliers. In addition, either own or participate in the conduct of regular vendor performance operational reviews.
  • IT & Non-IT Procurement – Integrate solutions and foster innovation in procurement, leveraging local expertise and best practices as well as industry developments; translate strategy into practical and relevant standards for all indirect procurement categories; insure that the purchasing and contractual processes with suppliers is fair to Aegon, and leverages Aegon’s global scale to its advantage.
  • Strategic Sourcing – Collaborate with business leaders across the company to evaluate opportunities for strategic IT and business process outsourcing, prepare the organization for change, and guide it through a transformation. Streamline the global strategic supplier program for Aegon’s largest or most critical suppliers. Also, work with business and IT leaders on potential outsourcing opportunities.
In addition to leading the GPO, the Head of Global Procurement and Sourcing is also directly responsible for leading the Procurement and Vendor Management teams within the global IT infrastructure organization.
The role reports directly into the Chief Technology Officer.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Aegon’s indirect Global Procurement and Sourcing strategy ensuring day to day operations are effective and efficient.
  • Lead efforts relative to a resource and location strategy, allocate resources, have a locations strategy and are aware of vendor policies.
  • Lead and develop a world class procurement team. Assess the organizational structure, recommend and adopt optimal organizational design, and hire, train and coach staff to achieve sourcing objectives.
  • Develop and implement Aegon’s direct Global Procurement and Sourcing strategy and vision. Drive change across the organization, lead the procurement transformation program, and partner with BU leadership and strategic suppliers to move the enterprise to the next level of strategic sourcing, category procurement and vendor management.
  • Exhibit strong leadership and serve as a role model in developing and maintaining key relationships with internal stakeholders. Create cross functional cooperation by sharing best practices.
  • Provide thought leadership and execution/delivery support to Aegon’s Operations and Technology executives that focus on best practice in guiding business partner outsourcing relationships and scope of process outsourcing.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Together with the team of procurement professionals, provide advice on cost reduction and demand management opportunities. Develop and implement relevant policies and procedures in line with the transformation to a Global Procurement and Sourcing structure. Establish category spending, annual spend savings, and avoidance targets.
Candidate Qualifications
The Head of Global Procurement and Sourcing will drive change across the organization. The ideal candidate is a talented, innovative, and creative executive who brings experience in procurement at international level. S/he will have extensive experience in driving change by focusing strongly on collaboration and convincing key business leaders of the opportunities and impact to business performance that come with successful execution of this function. S/he is able to build relationships with the global business units and strategic suppliers in order to bring the organization to the next level of strategic sourcing.
The ideal candidate has the following background:
  • Strong track record of managing stakeholder relationships, preferred in participation in a major organizational transformation in which stakeholder engagement was key to success.
  • Experience managing Procurement and/or Sourcing, professionals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Dutch language skills would be beneficial.
  • Understanding and broad based variety of experience in category procurement, strategic sourcing and vendor management gained in a top procurement organization.
  • Preferred: Experience in other indirect procurement categories.
  • 15+ years of knowledge of business principles, understanding of project management, business and contract law, licensing, intellectual property, financing and accounting gained in a blue chip, preferably listed, global company with multi country operations.
  • Preferred: Experience in end to end business process outsourcing.
  • Strong understanding or purchasing workflows, category spend analysis, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills to ensure transparency and ensure strategic direction is clear across the organization as well as deep into the Procurement organization.
  • Experience in negotiation with knowledge of current techniques, this includes consultation skills and demonstrated success and leadership in providing contractual and negotiation support for Technology and Non-technology products and services.
  • Experience with Strategic Supplier programs, preferably across multiple geographies
  • At least 10 years of procurement experience of which at least 7 years are in the IT domain.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance, master’s degree is preferred.

  • Please note that the compensation information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules and other compensation posting laws. It is estimated based on what a successful candidate might be paid in certain Company locations.**

Compensation:
The salary for this position generally ranges between $250,000-$400,000. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law. The range may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Rule 4.1.2.
Bonus Eligibility:
This position is also eligible for an Annual Bonus and Long Term Incentive, at a targeted percentage, based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance.
