Introduction

Social Impact (SI) is a global development management consulting firm. We provide monitoring, evaluation, strategic planning, and capacity building services to advance development effectiveness. We work across all development sectors including democracy and governance, health and education, the environment, and economic growth. Since 1997 we have worked in over 100 countries for clients such as US government agencies, bilateral donors, multilateral development banks, foundations, and nonprofits.

SI is carrying out a survey of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) service, use, and availability in Haiti. The survey will include face-to-face and telephone-based data collection from households; as well as data collection from providers of water and sanitation services. SI is seeking to engage one or more GIS analysis consultants for a short-term, immediate assignment supporting survey sampling by drawing building footprints using satellite imagery.

Position Description:

SI is seeking one or more GIS analysis consultants to draw building footprints in selected areas of Haiti using satellite imagery. Building footprints in each area will be drawn independently by two analysts and compared by a third one to ensure accuracy. We expect each consultant to be engaged for 60 to 120 hours over a one-month period beginning immediately. Consultants will work under the supervision of SI’s survey team and a Senior GIS Specialist.

Expected Deliverables:

• A GIS shapefile with building footprints in selected areas of Haiti

Responsibilities:

• Creation of a GIS shapefile with building footprints in selected areas of Haiti
• Reconciliation of conflicting data
• Other tasks as necessary and feasible, if the analyst is available

Qualifications:

• Strong background in GIS systems, either ArcGIS or QGIS
• Masters’ degree or higher (or currently working towards a Masters’ degree) in relevant discipline
• French proficiency is advantageous
