Provides primary technical support to the Equine Field Service, their clinical faculty, residents, interns, and senior veterinary students. Assists with field and inhouse cases, diagnostic procedures (xrays, scintigraphy, endoscopy, lameness evaluation, etc.), and with the medical management of Service cases admitted for care to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Inventories pharmaceuticals and equipment of each mobile equine veterinary unit daily, ensuring availability and working order. Performs daily charge verification for all Equine Field Service cases. Assists with the inventory and maintenance of the Podiatry Service vehicle. Performs daily cleaning and maintenance of these units. Provides back up support to in house technical staff members, clinical faculty and house officers.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of common equine veterinary pharmaceuticals, products, diagnostic and medical equipment and their application; knowledge of basic shoeing principals; previous experience working with, handling, and restraining various breeds of horses; good computer skills necessary including knowledge of programs such as Windows based software, VISION, GlobalVetLINK; excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions; must be able to safely move and handle up to 75 pounds; ability to tolerate Rabies prophylaxis (provided by employer) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in an equine ambulatory veterinary field service oriented environment; licensure as a Veterinary Technician; previous experience driving a crew cab truck and pulling a gooseneck trailer; previous experience working with, handling, and restraining various breeds of horses, including breeding stallions.
