This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

The primary purpose of this position is to function as the coordinator for the oversight of the regional state collection system functions in accordance with the Division's goals and objectives. The employee performs compliance reviews for facilities that have collection system permits, those that are deemed permitted, and provides compliance oversight for this program as well as the Fast Track sewer extension program.

This position is to function as follows:
  • The position will coordinate the Fayetteville Regional Office’s Ambient Monitoring System (AMS) station and Random Monitoring Stations (RAMS) sampling requirements (with the expansion of sampled parameters to include PFAS and other emergent compounds). All stations are sampled monthly for physical and chemical parameters.
  • Respond to water quality related citizen complaints and environmental emergencies for the purpose of determining the potential for environmental impact.
  • Assist in emerging compound work.
  • Conduct compliance inspections of collection systems as assigned by the Regional Office Management.
  • Prepare reports as required by the Regional Office Management related to facility performance, compliance, or enforcement proceedings. Prepare appropriate enforcement letters, as necessary.
The Division of Water Resources:
The Division of Water Resources is responsible for protecting North Carolina’s drinking, surface and groundwater for all waterbodies including lakes, streams, rivers, wetlands and aquifers. This environmental stewardship is accomplished through actions including permitting issuance, investigations, regulatory compliance and enforcement, monitoring and field assessments, certifications, laboratory analysis and testing, planning, water quality standards management, educational outreach and other efforts. The Division comprises six Sections: Water Quality Regional Operations; Water Sciences; Public Water Supply; Water Quality Permitting; Groundwater Resources, and Water Planning. To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess

  • Ability to apply the basic environmental concepts, practices, and theories involved in the design, development, review, permitting, and/or operations of projects/sites and their potential environmental and safety impacts.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to formulate or assist in the development of management alternatives and recommendations.
  • Ability to analyze, manipulate and evaluate information/data, including the use of software.
  • Ability to prepare written/verbal reports; and ability to work with considerable independence.
  • Ability to organize and direct moderately complex research or field studies.

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Graduating Senior students with applicable degrees listed above with an anticipated graduation date will be considered. Job offers will be contingent upon completion of their degree.
