Summary: DAWSON is actively seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist/Team Lead in support of our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) customer working full-time at the FAA Technical Center at the Atlantic City Airport.

This position includes serving as the primary point of contact and responsible for Safety management of all work performed. Provides technical expertise and support to the environmental, health and safety program at the TSL. Serves as lead to manage Radiation Specialist and Industrial Engineer/Hazmat Specialist personnel, coordinating work effort to address all aspects of TSL’s Safety Program. Acts as the primary technical expert that advises the Federal Safety Officer as well as the primary safety advisor and point of contact for the numerous facility programs. Manage significant hazards which exist at the TSL due to the nature of the work performed.

  • Conducting training on various safety and occupational health programs (i.e. New Employee, Chemical Hygiene, Emergency Management, Ergonomics, Forklift, etc.).
  • Managing various safety and occupational health programs (i.e. New Employee, Chemical Hygiene, Emergency Management, Ergonomics, Forklift, etc.).
  • Assemble all necessary information for data calls from parent organizations pertaining to TSL-ACY safety programs.
  • Coordinate activities of safety support contract personnel to ensure coverage of all aspects of TSL’s safety programs.
  • Maintain OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
  • Develop and implement safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing emergency preparedness procedures and training for TSL.
  • Attend all safety briefings and attend various laboratory operations meetings.
  • Environmental Health and Safety Team Lead responsible for the following aspects of TSL’s safety program, but not limited to:
  • Brief TSL management on the status of TSL safety programs.
  • Investigate accidents and monitors exposure complaints.
  • Material Identification of Unknown Substance (MIDUS) (Pharmaceuticals)
  • Write and review TSL safety documents and SHEMs related materials.
  • Develop safety awareness products for the TSL.
  • Conducting laboratory inspections, produce inspection findings report.
  • Respond to staff safety concerns/issues.
  • Tracking corrective actions to completion coordinating with safety personnel as appropriate.

Certifications

  • Possesses demonstrated ability to effectively manage an Environmental Health and Safety Team.
  • 10 years’ experience with site safety, health and environmental operations including experience in a team lead capacity.
  • Possesses demonstrated ability to lead, manage, prepare, and present to small and large groups of people, and have the ability to create independent engineering cost estimates as necessary for the purchase of safety equipment and training materials.
  • Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office Suite products, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat products.
  • Associate’s Degree and 10 years managing complex scientific, safety, or engineering contracts or related activities.
  • Current or ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance and DHS Suitability.
  • US Citizen
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a science field (i.e., physics, engineering, business)
  • Active Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
  • Familiarity with all federal, state, and local regulations such as Safe Drinking Water Act and Clean Air Act.
