The Environmental Engineer Assistant I in the Municipal Section, Surface Water Permits Branch in the Division of Water is an entry-level engineering position that allows the incumbent to work across organizational lines, with the public and with the regulated community providing technical assistance on the Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES).
Holders of the Environmental Engineer Assistant I position will complete tasks such as:

• Carry out inspections of Municipal Wastewater and Stormwater Systems.
• Provide technical assistance to regulated communities.
• Assist making technical assessments of permitting requirements for construction activities.
• Conduct technical reviews and analyze KPDES Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant discharge applications.

Preferred skills and abilities:

• Microsoft Office products
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Geographic Information System (GIS) experience

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Frequent travel throughout the state may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
