THE ROLE:
The Renewables Energy Engineer will be a key technical member of a cross-functional team that focuses on evaluating, defining & executing projects as part of the Syserco Energy Solutions team. You will be the technical expert for customer solutions with renewables. You will also provide support to Project Development Engineers during project development, Sales throughout the sales process, and Project Managers during project implementation.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, possess excellent communications skills, and be detail oriented. You must have a genuine passion for solar, battery storage, microgrids, and must want to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Builds and maintains relationships with utility account managers and utility 3rd party programs.
- Conducts initial feasibility surveys including such tasks as utility analysis, site audits, roof measurement, structural assessment, electrical equipment layout, and system design.
- Develops Scope of Work for subcontractor bids, provides bid analysis and assists in subcontractor selection.
- Actively participates in professional industry organizations.
- Participates in developing the Final Investment Grade Audit Report / Proposal.
- Responds to issues that arise in a professional and timely manner.
- In conjunction with the Project Developer, develops initial cost estimates for system inclusion in PFA.
- Adheres to Syserco’s Policies and Procedures, HR, Safety Plan and others.
- Uses modeling and reporting software such as Helioscope, UtilityAPI, and Energy Toolbase.
- Keeps current with legislation, emerging technologies, utility incentive programs, and utility 3rd party programs.
- Delivers consistent and clear communication with internal and external customers.
- Provides training to Sales and Operations.
- Provides ongoing client contact and relations throughout the lifecycle of the project.
- Prepares project to be built including staging special equipment, acquiring all necessary permits, and working with Project Manager to contract with subcontractors.
- Performs Cashflow Analysis.
- Partners and collaborates with subcontractors, manufacturers, and engineering consultants.
- Ensures quality, timeliness, and completeness of work performed within budget.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Team-Oriented, comfortable with open communication and collaboration
- Ability and desire to learn.
- Familiar with construction plans and schematics.
- Detailed oriented and organized.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of building structure and electrical systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid CA drivers’ license with ability to drive and operate a vehicle is required.
- Operation of standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications and use of computer equipment for extended periods of time.
- May be required to sit, stand, bend, climb and lift, push or carry items less than 50 lbs. around office and on occasion job sites.
- Willing to travel, according to project requirements – California only.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Basic understanding of renewable energy, battery storage, and microgrid technology.
- At least one year of industry experience preferred.
- Undergraduate Degree in Engineering preferably Energy or Electrical.
