Job Description

Project Engineer / Mechanical Engineer

Moss landing, CA / Engineering / FULL-TIME

Verdagy is creating a new class of very large-scale hydrogen electrolyzers that will help decarbonize some of the most difficult to abate sectors of our global economy. Our approach is to design large modular skid-mounted hydrogen electrolyzers that will be used to architect very large-scale hydrogen production plants.

As a Project Engineer / Mechanical Engineer, you will join our Engineering and Operation Department and contribute to the design of 20MW and larger modular hydrogen production plants. Your role will involve coordinating project activities to ensure successful project execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams within the company, external vendors, fabrication shops, and EPCs. Additionally, you will be responsible for mechanical engineering-related tasks. We are looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented, and intelligent individual to join our exceptional team.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Coordinate project activities internally with the engineering, design, procurement, and operation teams, and externally with vendors, fabrication shops, and EPCs.

· Assist in preparing scope of work documents, cost estimates, and project schedules.

· Prepare technical documents for material requisitions, including Specifications, Datasheets, Inspection and Testing Plans (ITP), and Vendor Document Requirements (VDR).

· Contact vendors to obtain quotes and perform technical bid evaluations.

· Review vendor drawings / documents to ensure compliance with project requirements and visit their shops for inspections and witnessing tests.

· Assist in the development of 3D models for equipment modules and overall plants.

· Create and manage bill of materials (BOM) from 3D models.

· Establish the mechanical equipment list and regularly update its technical content.

· Develop and maintain general specifications, such as pipe material, paint and coating, plant layout, and spacing.

· Collaborate with other disciplines in the development of P&IDs, PFDs, equipment layouts, and other engineering documents.

· Gain familiarity with codes and standards applicable to hydrogen electrolyzers and ensure compliance.

· Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Prior Experience and Professional Qualities

· Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.

· 3+ years of industry experience in project/mechanical engineering and design.

· Familiarity with codes, standards, and best practices related to mechanical engineering (e.g., CFR, OSHA, ASME, API, PIP).

· In-depth knowledge of principles and applications of different types of equipment, including compressors, pumps, vessels, heat exchangers, filters, and valves.

· Experience in hydrogen electrolyzers, chemical plants, oil & gas, or related industries.

· Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD piping and structural design (preferably AutoCAD and Plant 3D) is a plus.

· Hands-on field experience with engineering, design, procurement, and construction of large-scale, preferably modular, plants.

· Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Experience

· Design, fabrication, and deployment of modular process skids, pilot plants, and first-of-a-kind operations.

· Familiarity with the properties and handling requirements of hydrogen, oxygen, and caustic.

· Startup experience preferred; excited to be part of a small team that is making a difference.

· Prior experience in renewable energy, climate tech, or chemical industries preferred.

· Passion for decarbonization highly preferred.
