Pay Philosophy

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

The compensation for this role is dependent on experience and geographic location of candidate.

A highly qualified attorney who may be a specialist or highly-experienced generalist who handles complex

legal assignments and who operates under minimal supervision. Generally, has at least five years` experience as a practicing lawyer or at least two years practicing as an employment lawyer plus at least three or more years practicing as an employment paralegal. Provides legal advice and carries out actions which have an impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company while maintaining high standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Manage administrative charges (including assessing charges, interviewing witnesses, preparing timely responses, preparing and presenting witnesses).
• Manage employment issues in M&A matters.
• Provides high quality oral and written legal advice concerning Title VII, ADEA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, USERRA, ERISA, among others, in a cost-effective and timely manner to internal clients.
• Maintain current knowledge of legal issues and developments in employment law and/or benefits law.
• Assess demand letters, recommends options to internal clients in a timely manner, and when authorized, negotiate settlement arrangements.
• Work with compensation and benefits counsel on qualified pension & 401k plans, executive compensation, nonqualified deferred compensation, 409A, and health and welfare benefits, and other complex benefit issues.
• Prepare and conduct training sessions for internal clients.
• Manage outside counsel in connection with state or federal court litigation; assess strategy and recommend timely options for internal consideration.

Qualifications

What you’ve got:

Experience

• Requirements include excellent oral and written communication skills, client focus, managing multiple priorities, attention to detail and demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
• ERISA knowledge desired.
• At least five years` experience as a practicing lawyer or at least two years practicing as an employment lawyer plus at least three or more years practicing as an employment paralegal.
• Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one jurisdiction in the United States required.
