Job Summary
The EHS Specialist coordinates the EHS activities for multiple business units in Texas and the Southeastern US, but is primarily located in the San Antonio and Austin, TX area. This position will ensure that compliance is maintained with AFL, client and regulatory requirements. The incumbent evaluates and recommends solutions to EHS related problems. Construction and/or Telephony experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Assists with the execution of the ergonomic program though proactive identification of high-risk activities, completion of ergonomic assessments and implementation of corrective action plans
- Maintains safety processes and procedures
- Conducts investigations into associates’ hazard reporting, suggestions and complaints
- Leverages and analyzes EHS data to identify opportunities for improvement and establish sustainable corrective action plans
- Ensures EHS training is conducted for all affected personnel with a focus on strengthening new employee onboarding
- Engages site leadership and associates to ensure effective implementation of key EHS programs and improve organizational culture
- Tracks and monitors key safety and environmental metrics
- Develops procedures and training for compliance with relevant OSHA Standards and company EHS policies
- Manages investigations, recordkeeping, case management and documentation for all EHS incidents
- Networks across the EHS organization to identify, share and implement best practices
- Ensures all incidents are recorded and reported according to regulatory and AFL requirements
- Manages site Job Observation and EHS auditing processes
- Deploys AFL safety and environmental initiatives
- Works with business unit teams to evaluate, develop, and update Safe Work Instructions/Job Safety Analyses

Qualifications
- Knowledge of industry best practices relating to EHS process improvements
- Additional preferred qualifications:

- Ability to interface with multiple levels of the organization and communicate effectively to promote buy-in and reduce or eliminate negative associations with EHS initiatives
- 4 year degree in an EHS-related field and 1-4 years of relevant work experience preferred; will consider 2-3 years of practical EHS work experience in lieu of degree
- Possess the ability to conduct training for groups of employees in a classroom or field setting with knowledge of adult learner teaching techniques
- Knowledgeable in Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) standards
- Requires general personal computer skills as well as the ability to use Microsoft Operating System and specialized EHS systems
- Incident management, root cause analysis, and investigation skills; ensures appropriate corrective actions are established, tracked and completed in a timely manner
- Ability to interface with multiple levels of the organization and communicate effectively to promote buy-in and reduce or eliminate negative associations with EHS initiatives
Working Conditions
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America.
- Requires significant travel based on project needs.
- Use of standard office equipment.
- Work may be indoors or outdoor environments
- Moderate pressure to meet customer and company deadlines.
