Job Summary:
The Postdoctoral Fellow is responsible for contributing scholarly work to the Department of Chemistry and TCU through research and teaching. The Fellow will lead a multi-investigator project on light-active functional organic materials based on triazine macrocycles. The Fellow will recruit a team of TCU undergraduates to design, simulate, synthesize, and characterize the target macrocycles. This will be carried out in collaboration with undergraduate research programs in modular aqueous-phase macrocycle synthesis (Prof. E. Simanek), computational chemistry simulations (Prof. B. Janesko), and OLED device fabrication (Prof. J. Coffer).
This position is part of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Scholar Fellowship Program, which is designed to recruit emerging scholars from a range of disciplines who are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. The program is part of TCU’s wider commitment to promoting inclusive excellence, furthering the university’s goals for a more diverse faculty and inclusive campus. The position is grant funded and appointment to this role is for a period of up to 2 years.
The DEI Scholar will have multiple opportunities to establish a record of leadership, scholarship, and student mentoring, to support a pathway to a tenure-track position. The Scholar will be asked to teach one section of an advanced undergraduate course on an area in their specialty.
School/College Description:
The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at TCU has nine faculty and 20 graduate students and postdocs engaged in a broad range of research. The department’s teacher-scholar model values undergraduate and graduate research as essential components of student success. TCU is a private university in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, classified as high research activity (Carnegie R2 classification). Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Promotes innovative ways of involving our diverse student body in an accessible and engaged educational experience.
2. Advances new approaches to interdisciplinary research, scholarship or creative work that benefits our diverse communities and addresses complex global problems.
3. Contributes to inclusive excellence action research.
4. Expands collaborations with community and business partnerships, including those involving traditionally underserved groups.
5. Teaches up to one course per semester for the College of Science and Engineering, department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
- Experience with engagements with students, innovations in research, scholarship and creative activities, and partnerships in outreach and service that advance diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Ph.D. degree in chemistry or biochemistry.
Award:
The salary is competitive with similar postdoctoral fellowships, and the position includes a generous benefits package including access to medical, vision, dental, and life insurance. Each award is for 12 months and may be renewable for one additional years upon demonstration of academic productivity. The position will begin Fall 2023.
